You are asking an excellent question. I didn't choose to be straight, and I couldn't choose to be gay. I have always been attracted to the opposite sex. Why would anyone make a life-style choice that open the door for personal attacks? People who bash gays are not Christians, they are just bigots.

Check out Exodus International. They are a group of ex-gays that have left that lifestyle. It's not genetic because University of Colorado has done studies with identical twins and found no link.
People become gay for two major reasons for the most part. One is when a child grows up in a broken home where the father is absent or is abusive... the kid suffers from father hunger and seeks older men to fill that role. He feels good being hugged and that becomes eroticized over time and made to believe he is gay.
For women it is different. Usually sexual abuse has a role in mistrust of men which leads to lesbianism.
Need I say more? Surgeon General Everett Koop has studies on this stuff. Check him out some time.

It is a bad deal, not because we condemn it but because God condemns it. He is the one who makes that decision. The word repent means "to turn again" and is basically a turning around. The power in repentance lies not in turning against sin, but in turning to God. If you try with any sin to turn your back on it you will fail because that is human works and no one can conquer that. But if you simply turn to God for mercy and power then it becomes His responsibility to conquer your sin through Jesus Christ. There is an outline of how you do it in 1 John 1. If it isn't done by God in a miraculous way it won't be done at all. By the way the Bible teaches that when God gives you victory He allows a weakness for you in that area to keep you hanging unto Him and if you wander away from Him you will fall into it again. That is with all sins. It is better to not get involved in a sin in the first place than to do it and then try an conquer it.
Homo sexuality is not a generic thing, it is a consequence of rebellion against God, read Romans 1, and although God may be the one to make physical changes (generic) within a person it causes is a discipline of God.

According to Romans 5:12, all have sinned because it was passed down from Adam. All sin is genetic. And we are everywhere taught in God's word to fight against sin, isn't that so?
Because we are predisposed to a certain attitude or behavior does not make that attitude or behavior acceptable to God. And sometimes it is only acceptable in certain frameworks. To illustrate: we are genetically desirous of having intimate relations. But that does not mean that any and every way of doing so is acceptable to God. It is God who determines what is acceptable and not we ourselves. And what is acceptable is not determined on the basis of whether it is genetic.

It is not Genetic, It is a spirit that gets on them, In 1st Cor.6:11 Paul said & he was speaking to the Church at Corinth. And such were some of you(GAYS & LESBIANS) but ye are washed. But ye are sanctified, But ye are Justified in the name of the Lord Jesus & by the Spirit of God. so it is not genetic as many wants you to believe. When God destroy Sodom & Gommorah, he destroyed them all, & many in those cities were not gay, But they went along with that lifestyle. No one can prove it is Genetic, But I can give you many more verses that shows it is a evil spirit that gets into their minds.

I am a christian but I don't bash gay people.I do however tell them what God says about it.This is why its a big deal--God says no.I don't believe you can be born gay.It makes no sense. But I was born an alcoholic.I haven't drank in almost twenty years(thank God).So since I was born that way,do you think God wanted me to drink myself to death?Or do you think He patted me on my fetal head and said`since it's not your fault, you don't have to obey me? I know it would make life a lot easier if it worked this way----but it doesn't.

How can you say that you're a Christian when you don't know Christ? If you knew Christ than you would know that HE is God in the flesh and that God sees homosexuality as a sin.
Homosexuality goes against our very nature. It is not a natural thing because our bodies weren't built to accomodate that kind of sexual relations. Two women cannot come together as one when they're private parts weren't made to naturally connect. Think of the legos, and how they're made to connect.
The same thing with two men. A man's private parts were made to penetrate a woman and procreate a child. It is not supposed to be inserted in an anus. The anus has muscles and tissue built to help our bodies excrete or push out, not to receive. That is why it does not lubricate itself naturally because nothing's meant to enter it.
Sorry for how this sounds, but I'm just telling it like it is because too many people make decisions based how how they feel instead of what they know is right. Having a sexual attraction to the same sex doesn't make it right to enter into a homosexual relationship. Just because someone feels a certain way doesn't mean that that feeling is okay to have nor that it should be accepted because many times our feelings can get us in trouble.
Let me give you an example. If I were an alcoholic, my body is going to desire to drink alcohol. Thirsting for alcohol is going to seem natural to me because after all, we do get thirsty and we do need to drink liquids to satisfy our thirst. If I decide to go for the beer than I'm making a decision based on my feelings, not according to what I know is right. The right decision is choosing not to drink alcohol which will addict me and destroy my life. I should instead make the right decision which is saying no to alcohol and yes to water which will not addict me.
It can seem natural to to hit someone who has offended you, afterall, they pissed you off right? Well, no. It is not the right thing to do and just because your anger is telling you that it's okay to discharge it by hurting someone who provoked you, that doesn't mean it's the right decision to make. It can land you in jail, get you killed, or give you one heck of an angry person just waiting to get back at you.
Do you think that God is going to bless a relationship that goes agianst everything He made us to be? We are created to come together as one just like Christ is married to the church. This unity can only be achieved the way it's made to be acheived and that is when the pieces that make the whole naturally fit and are right.
God makes everything whole so if someone is struggling to say no to something that they know is bad, than they should ask God to empower them to do what is difficult to do. Remember, sin is an enslaving power, God is the one who can release us from the enslaving power of sin when it addicts us to drugs, alcohol, and homosexual tendencies which all lead to doom.

If it wasn't "natural", it wouldn't happen in nature, would it? It's NOT a bad thing, it's just a difference. It harms no one, so there's no reason to discriminate against them. I mean, Jesus is about love, and all these people do is love someone of their own sex. You people who are against them have awfully dirty minds, because all you can focus on is the SEX! They are humans, not pervs, and who they love should have nothing to do with you. If you believe that God will judge, what gives you the right to judge them?

You`re right it shouldn`t be a big deal. It`s almost as if people are afraid of being gay. I don`t go around asking what peoples sexual preferences are because I don`t care.

Christian,
Please read about Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis.
Then read what Paul says about abusers of themselves with mankind found in Romans.
That book is full of useful information on things to avoid.
