RELATED STORIESTwo bills, one in the U.S. House and one in the U.S. Senate, provide different views of immigration. Both, however, impact illegal immigrants, border security and punishment for those who interact with illegal immigrants.
The bills differ in many ways. One of the major differences is H.R. 4437 defines all illegal immigrants as felons, while S. 2611 increases the number of worker visas and allows illegal immigrants living here for more than five years to become legal, permanent residents.

"The House bill has a narrower focus, mostly on border security and enforcement," said U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland. Hoekstra also said he is leery of providing citizenship to those already in the U.S. illegally.

Parts of the House bill include:

* Building of a 700-mile long fence along the U.S./Mexico border.

* Making it a felony to assist, encourage or direct people to enter country illegally.

* Making illegal presence in the country is a felony

Some parts of the Senate bill:

* Calls for 300 miles of fencing along the U.S./Mexico border and 500 miles of vehicle barriers.

* Requires employers within 18 months on electronic system to verify hires are legal.

* Creates a guest-worker program for 1.5 million immigrant farm workers who can also earn legal permanent residency.

How absolutely asinine to give 18 months for something this simple. It should only take two days!! A week, at most. Another example of how our government is ruining our country.

HR 4437 is closer to what, I as a person living in the southwest, agree with more. Its much more to the point of the problem. And addresses most of our/my concerns about illegal aliens here in Arizona.I personally would support the house bill and not the senate bill. The senate bill is a cop out and would not be effective as it is far too broad and lenient.Although a guest worker program that would allow the illegal alien to come here for only short periods then go back to their own country's,might work too.in addition to the house bill.I am against ANY form of amnesty for any illegals from any where .
No amnesty

What are we going to do with the millions or so of illegal immigrants? Point them to the border and say "march"? I prefer the Senate bill because it's saner.
Come on people, what would you do if the minimum wage in Canada was $55.00? You'd pack your parka, hitch up the cats to the sled and you'd be in Moose Jaw, legal or not. That's sort of the difference between wages in Mexico and here.
The only way we are going to solve this problem is to help Mexico get something going for itself.
this is more than you asked for isn't it.?

Well, since now it needs to go to conference to try to combine the bills, we will never get to vote on either the House or Senate versions. There will be a compromise bill that will hopefully incorporate the best of both bills.

I am looking forward to seeing what the House and Senate joint conference committee comes up with.

If the main political parties had LISTENED to the people of Britain there would be no need for the BNP Patriotism has been turned into a racial crime and thousands of patriotic people both black and white have turned to the BNP. People do not want mass immigration, islamisation and the loss of our sovereignty to the EU. We have been sold out for too long and the BNP are the only party that seems to have the answer. Blame the mainstream parties for abandoning the decent people of Britain.

House bill. We need to be more strict with these disrespectful illegals and their anti-American supporters (that's right, I can label people too. You call me a racist, you're an Anti-American).

4437's pretty much the mark to drive for, as far as I'm concerned...illegal immigration needs to be stopped, cold.

I agree with the senate, even though the wall should be a little longer.
