Prior to quitting, I was smoking Camel Filters - pack a day plus one or two. I switched to a light brand every 2 weeks until I was smoking Carlton UltraLight 100s (the least tar and nicotine of any brand on the market in '96). After I bought my last pack, I bought a box of Nicorette. Each one was a ruch as it has about 10 times the nicotine of the Carltons! Went thru a box and a 'suppliment pack' of those (I think 5 suppliments was recommended). FWIW

1. Know the reason you want to quit.
2. Keep away from smokers.
3. Hypnosis helps a lot if you are directly suggestible - find a reputable hypnotist, just don't accept anyone.
4. Keep a log like this:
FEELING: I feel like smoking ACTION: I go for a walk, walk at a brisk pace and then have a large glass of cold water
FEELING I feel like smoking ACTION Cleaned the kitchen
FEELING am angry ACTION Took the anger to a movie that will kept my mind on the movie.
6. Schedule you smoking times: say 10 a.m. 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and DO NOT smoke out side those times. Realize that smoking is a controllable habit, you control it so you can easily stop. Slowly schedule other things for those times and there you have it, smoking cessation!
YOU CAN DO IT, MILLIONS HAVE AND YOU ARE NOT DIFFERENT!

There are many ways to quit smoking, it's a multibillion dollar industry, and so far there does not seem to be one way that's best for all people, it depends on the person.
Probably the best way to start (assuming that you can't just stop cold turkey, which is very difficult and doesn't work for most people) is to see you doctor and talk about options.
There are patches, gums, and inhalers to replace nicotine, there are devices to gradually reduce the time between cigarettes in order to phase them out, and there are medications that seem to help reduce cravings in most people, but it's hard to tell what will work for any one person.

I quit 4 months ago with hypnosis, and still occasionally chew nicotine gum, but am not smoking. It is sure not easy, but do it sooner rather than later, it will be easier. No one best way to quit, just keep trying til you find way that works for you.

When i quit, I went "cold turkey". The first 2 weeks are the toughest, when your body is going through the actual nicotine withdrawal. Then it's just taking one day at a time, and try not to think about it. After a while, the urge goes away.

I quit cold turkey 13 yrs ago and have never restarted. I did have to keep a pack with me at all times for almost a yr. I found that if I didnt have them with me it made me panic and want one more. If I carried them with me I knew that if I chose to I had one there. I found it easier that way.
