I think everyone should just chill out and keep their beliefs to themselves, atheist or otherwise.

Religion shouldn't even be a conversation topic because all it does is stir strong useless debates that benefit no one because no one can prove what they believe.

What belief is an Athiest pushing on you? I think you may have confused an Atheist for a Pagan. The defining quality of an Athiest is that they don't believe in a God.

Reactionaries.

Don't fool yourself, atheists who push their beliefs are doing so in response to thousands of years of Christian evangalism and coersion.

I'm an agnostic, and I personally don't like to argue religion with someone unless they initiate it. But I can still see why some atheists feel the need to "spread the word," even though I don't really agree with it.

Athiests are pushing their beliefs harder than Christians? Let's see...

I searched the Dex Online directory for "Christian Store" in Denver, and found 16 listings. A search for "Athiest Store" found 0 (NO) listings. Christian stores are full of literature and materials to 1, reinforce evangelistic beliefs and 2, to "witness" and push Christian beliefs on those who disagree with them.

I did a TV Guide search in my local area for religious broadcasting stations on television, and found 6 of them. Athiest stations? Zero. (and religious radio stations are just uncountable).

I can count numerous religious organizations, particularly fundamentalists, which are very active lobbying Congress, thus trying to force their ideas on the entire general public, like it or not ("Moral Majority", "Focus on the Family", "700 Club", "Alliance Defense Fund", etc.). There are a few athiest organizations, but I doubt if the average American could name one or two of them without looking them up. And none of them are lobbying Congress to put Athiest-specific laws on the books*

How many famous athiests can you name who are pushing their views in Congress? Probably none. How many Christians? Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Ralph Reed, and numerous others.

In the upcoming election, many candidates are including a statement their religious affiliation in their platforms, but I haven't heard one say "vote for me because I'm an athiest."

Finally, the news (those liberal athiests - including Fox news?) is full of stories about fundamentalist organizations lobbying Congress and pushing legislation supporting their religious views. Not one story about an athiest organization pushing thier views.

Looks to me like Christians are much more guilty than athiests of pushing their own agenda and trying to force their views on everyone else whether they like it or not.

* Of course, religious right extremists characterize anything that contradicts their views as "athiests pushing their views", such as the teaching of accepted, verifiable science in public schools instead of their literal interpretation of the Bible. They also call any judge an "activist judge" who "legislates from the bench" if he or she determines that laws which THEY want, such as those discriminating against gay Americans, are unconstitutional.

They're called positive atheists and like all believers they need to provide evidence to support their arguments. Weak atheism is disbelief and that is the most logical position from a philosophical viewpoint in the absence of any evidence to confirm God's existence. Why would you want to argue for something's non-existence if you don't believe in it? Positive atheism is a waste of time and effort.

It truly depends on the social/professional circles in which you move. At the university, Christians (more so than individuals from other faiths) have been characterized as ignorant and narrow-minded. In rural parts of society, faith is still as strong as it ever was. Atheists, by characterizing themselves as America's intelligentsia, actively slander those who maintain their faith in God. Yes, they do push hard. Pray for them, hold on to your faith, and if you need others to pray for you, then don't be afraid to ask. It's a hard time for Christians right now.
