I see horrible images of hopeless and helpless people, gaunt listless children held by mothers who are starving and wasting away from disease and I want to help them. But I don't want my money to go to scam artists, or high-overhead agencies, or corrupt warring groups in Africa. I want to know that any help I send goes directly to providing food to people. Are there any organizations that have a good record for getting aid to the places that it is needed?

You can buy (red) products. Bono has started a new project that raises money for Africa. He's made clothing in partnership with the Gap, cell phones, ipods, sunglasses, etc. where the profits go to Africa to help pay for HIV and AIDS medication for people dying in Africa. Look up the Paint the town red campaign.
