Later when pagans were converted to Christianity the ritual was converted to a celebration of all saints, a revered or "hallowed" event. Since most people worked all day the event was experienced at night, thus All Hallowed Eve.



The tradition of All Hallowed Eves or all Saints day was based on dressing as your favorite saint and treats were given.



Halloween is practiced in many countries around the world, and although it differs by culture, has a connecting theme.


The practice of mischief night - TP, eggs, soaping windows, keying cars was started by those who wanted to take revenge against people who did not give good treats. Too cowardly to act in the day or openly, they would take revenge the night before the next Halloween.


Recently , a new ritual has risen in popularity. Vigilante night is the practice of sitting up with a paintball gun, high pressure water hose, ice water balloons, or liquid "skunk scent" balloons to help educate about the dangers of mischief and how it is wrong. The would be evil doers are given a present of dozens of paintballs or dosed in liquid skunk and while being videoed and then the digital video is posted on You tube.com to further humiliate the cowardly vandals. To add further pain to the humiliation, the lowly vandals are routinely arrested by the police.
