I have a pentax *istDL, and am not sure what minimum f rating I should be looking for in a lense. f1.8? f2.8? Any good websites with info on this would be helpful as well.

For zoom lenses, a constant f/2.8 is as fast as it gets. For fixed focal length lenses, the faster the better - even if you don't need insane speed. That's because all lenses provide their best image quality when you stop them down a bit, so an f/1.8 lens set to f/2.8 will provide better image quality than an f/2.8 lens used wide open.
I use Nikon myself with a 17-55mm f/2.8 walk-around lens. And I use it at f/2.8 quite a bit - not only in low light situations, but also for the shallow depth of field. Sometimes, even f/2.8 isn't fast enough and I switch to a 50mm f/1.4. Heck, if I could afford it, I get a manual focus f/1.2 Noct.

The 50mm prime is specifically made for portraits. The 50mm f1.4 is ideal. I'm gonna back up the rest and agree that If you don't know lenses enough to know what is the best choice already then you should avoid doing a wedding. Weddings are "on the fly" photography. Every moment is of potential importance and If you miss a shot you don't get a second chance. I have a Rebel T3, this is the last camera I would ever use for wedding shots. There is no performance to this camera. I wouldn't do a wedding with anything less than a Canon 60D. You don't want to be the person that ruins your sister-in-law's wedding photos.

You need a prime lens!
A good Focal length is 200mm.
And a Great Zoom is 80-200 f2.8L(Not Sure if Pentax of Sigma do such a lens, but some one will!
