I doubt it will ever work since it is likely to be a SECAM recording (UK uses PAL), and virtually no TV manufacturer makes SECAM compatible TV's for the UK market. You may be able to buy a device to convert the signal to PAL, I wouldn't know where from though.
Those Frenchies had to be stubborn and have their SECAM TV system! Just about everyone else in Europe uses PAL.

Yes, but it will be in black and white, not colour.
The French system is called SeCAM for Sequential Colour And Memory.
Our system is called PAL for Phase Adjusted Lines.
The two are more or less compatible, but colour is lost in conversion from one to the other.
There are two other widely used systems.
MESeCAM is the version of SeCAM that gets used in the Middle East
And NTSC which stands for National Television Standards Comittee (or never the same colour) is used in USA, Japan, Canada etc.
NTSC isn't even slightly compatible with PAL or SeCAM.
It needs some major conversion hardware in order to view its signal on a European TV.

the completed device is in MELTDOWN! each gov't through the worldwide is or would be on the factor of disaster quite quickly! Greed has been allowed to run rampant for too long and the destruction is now irreversible! the USA has been on a media lockdown for some years. The media giants are owned via the actual gamers interior the CFR and the Ruling households and there is not any way that they might even take care of to pay for to have the individuals understand the actual certainty. The riots are going to unfold and each little thing is going to become further and added disfunctional as time passes. the worldwide will pass into insurrection and the gov'ts will attempt to quash the resistance notwithstanding it quite is futile. how many anybody is working the worldwide as against how many anybody is on the planet? we can't be held down continually. that is basically a remember of time till now John Q. Public wakes up and says "Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!" enable's hear it for 2012! :-) Peace i'm Dartagnon

any modern tv would veiw all types of broadcast, but the VCRs nowadays are compatible with both secam and PAL
soo if your vcr isnt compatible with both then you need a new one or just look for a freind that has one. watch them there and save yourself money.
if you want to buy an new one try e bay or CASH converters, cheap quality stuff .
good luck
