This is a really hard question to answer because it just leads to more questions. Does post-partum psychosis have to be proven? And if so,how? Is it legitimately a form of"temporary insanity" for want of better wording? If so and the sufferer is not of sound mind as such, then can the sufferer be guilty of a crime they were unaware they were committing? or is it more like manslaughter where you had no intention of committing the crime but are guilty of it nevertheless? How in touch with reality is a person with post-partum psychosis? Can you have a slight case of the condition? If so are there varying levels of psychosis? And should women be judged accordingly? I am not sure really but can say without a doubt that hormone changes, especially drastic ones can have major effects on women, their mannerisms and the lifestyles they lead. Hope this helps you a little :)

Yes it does. And what many don't realize is that a woman going through such torment on her own can also love her children dearly. There have been cases when the women kill their own children and have no remorse. That is something totally different from post-partum psychosis. The mothers who kill their children and then themselves do it out of love. I went through a terrible time in my life and had many thoughts of suicide. The only thing that was stopping me was the thought of my children living without me and thinking they weren't wanted or that it was their fault. Even though "at the time" I did partially blame them. Not personally but, there was the thought. Anyway, I thought the solution was to take all of us at the same time. I was fortunate enough to have had help and can't imagine how I even thought those thoughts. So yes, I think it is possible.

I have never experienced this, so I cannot put myself in someone else's shoes. I do believe that the attorneys will try whatever they can to avoid prison time. I also believe that not everyone who becomes a mother should be a mother. With that said, there are mothers who either have psychological problems or are predisposed to them. Maybe, they do not have or want access to medical attention, making the condition worse. Then, there are some who decide (voluntarily or involuntarily) that they no longer want to be a mom. It is sad, but a lot of times, the truth will not come out because of lawyer tricks to win a case.
Unfortunately, the children do not have a choice or a voice in the matter. Not only did they not ask to be born, they did not asked to be killed. It is hard for me to comprehend why they either do not procreate or give up the children for adoption. It rips my heart out every time, I hear that a parent murders a child, a part of them. I am not judging them. I just don't understand the mentality. Since I do not suffer from any of those symptoms, I cannot ever manage one thought of my future without all of my babies in it.

No I dont believe its an excuse for an otherwise coherent woman, who could clearly understand killing her children is wrong, to just explode into a tangent of violence.
If we can change the concept of rational and irrational thinking to such a degree as we already have, where do we draw the line? NO ONE in their rational right mind would kill a child. NO ONE. just because a mother previously had love for that child, but now is depressed, doesnt mean that child is any less dead than if a murderer off the street killed it.
Wrong is wrong. People get seriously horribly depressed every day, but they still are responsible for their actions. I will never accept the insanity plea from a mother who kills her children. EVER. The whole thing is wrong. Since Andrea Yates, or whoever she was, we've had two other child killing mothers in our state alone acquitted, their former trials dismissed, and sentenced to life in mental institutions. That sickens me.

2 weeks after delivery? perhaps, probable for a marathon runner in top actual structure with an a lot less complicated-than-favourite delivery. Or a superhero. yet in the authentic international, it takes 2 weeks before you're beginning to flow round without discomfort. now to not indicate a C-section delivery. belly surgical procedures of any kind take an outstanding six weeks fix time. it is truly some muscle and tissue that get decrease! ok, yet to the question at hand, I somewhat have continually believed in extra constructive help for any put up-partum mom, regardless if adoption is in the photo. different international locations do this and the actual incontrovertible truth that the U. S. has between the utmost infant moratality expenditures of any "first international" united states speaks to the actual incontrovertible truth that we are doing something incorrect. As to adoption, i'm also no longer one hundred % adoptive moms and dads giving economic concepts to birthmothers because it does appear as if paying for a baby, or putting the feeling of criminal responsibility on the part of the birthmother to stay with by ability of with the adoption, however in the journey that they are having 2d recommendations. i imagine that postpartum concepts falls into this similar catagory. certainly if the baby's mom ameliorations her recommendations and does no longer finished the adoption, the might want to-be adoptive moms and dads should not be obligated to pay for put up-partum prices. i imagine that postpartum concepts might want to be presented by technique of the authorities for all moms. go away adoption out of it.

I think when you add sleep deprivation to a woman already suffering from severe post partum the potential is there for disaster. My basic answer is yes. I work in a psychiatric clinic and we have seen a greater number of women now seeking help for post partum depression. I believe this occurrence is due in large part to the publicity surrounding those famous cases. So, maybe instead of feeling that there is shame in having those types of feelings, women will begin to "come out of the closet" and seek the help they need. Despite people like Tom Cruise who wish them to take vitamins, exercise and basically just "get over it".

i do think that in some cases, post-partum can be very debilitating. The homones and changes in your body can be devastating to some people. But, I also think that some women use it as an excuse.
one case in which I believe post-partum was the cause of the tragedy was the case of Andrea Yates drowning her children in a bathtub. She already suffered from mental disorders before the incident, and I think that post-partum eggagerated her symptoms, and drove her to commit murder. i believe that she did have a legitamate defense. Most others....i dont know. probably not.

i believe that no matter how bad it gets, as i have never experienced this, i would never kill my children, i have two, i could not imagine, my children stress me out but the thought of killing has never crossed my mind, call a family member and have them watch the kids and let them know you are not ok right now there are things we can do these days to prevent this post-partum depression like prozac...and i still cannot comprehend how it gets that bad that you resolve the problem in killing your own children i think if i could possibly ever get on that level then i would be a million more times depressed after knowing what i did, there is no way a woman can get this angry, or depressed, thinking and actually doing are two totally different things

Probably, I was never effected by any post-partum psychosis, but, I can see how other women can really lose it if they were already off balance.
