Been waiting for a question like this! I'm glad there are others out there as upset as I am. Could be that they skipped school, hit the wrong keys, don't use spell check or skiving at work. Also, does putting the "apostrophe s" in the wrong place (eg radio's) really get on anyone's nerves?

Without a doubt.
Of course we need to take into consideration the number of overseas members who use Yahoo Answers, but even so, the standard of written (and spoken) English has gone into a steep decline over the last 30 years.
And the fact that very few people seem to care gives us cause for great concern. Will we as a nation have dispensed with the use of grammar and punctuation by 2060?

It looks like some people try and answer as many questions as fast as possible to get those big 2 points. In their hurry they don't care to check spelling. As for grammar, I just think they are so dumb they don't know it's wrong because that's how they speak all the time. I answer those questions once in a while and really rip into them. It has a kind of a cleansing effect on me.

For some people, they are just too lazy to click on the Check Spelling button before submitting their answers...
Or maybe they just don't know that the Check Spelling button exists on the Yahoo! Answers...
Or maybe they are not English literate...
Or maybe they don't even realized at all that they have wrongly misspelled a few words (because they claim that they type so fast)
Or maybe it is too save time (for example, before = b4)
Or maybe it is the modern language use by the modern teenagers...

I sometimes am the worst person in the world for making typing mistakes
Its because i type too quickly and make mistakes and don't go back and correct them
However its true an awful lot of people either dont care about their lack of spelling or actually dont know
The worst i find is the random text speak that gets turned into typing, i can never understand it

I know what you mean. It seems that there is no real language and anything goes. They use the 'chat-speak' abbreviations, assuming that everyone else does.
While we are laughing at Presidents past for malapropisms and poor spelling, our schools are becoming less conscientious about the outcome of their pupils' academic achievement.
In conclusion, we arrive at this juncture; you see it on this site with alarming frequency and there is nothing that can be done to stem the flow.
Look for questions that are well worded, respond to them and you will get your points. It is futile to redeem those who do not wish to change the way they represent themselves.

A lot of people now don't know how to write (or talk) properly but this is more of a problem when they are using computers. For one thing, they don't feel the need for literate correctness when answering these questions. A lot of people would write differently if these questions had been given to them on an exam paper.

Well, they are just SO used to typing, that they forget to press the little small check spelling at the top right corner. A lot of people just don't care.

I am not illiterate, just lazy. When I am typing and make a typo, unless it changes the meaning of the word I dont go back and fix it. Words don't have to be perfect here, this is not school!
