I've been perfecting my personal hangover cure over the course of many years. In actual fact, there are different types of hangovers, depending on what you have been drinking. Some of the problems include dehydration, low blood-sugar level, and toxins in the body.

If you have a serious hangover, you are likely to be feeling sick. This is the first thing to resolve. I'd recommend a bottle of coke - it's carbonated, which settles the stomach; contains plenty of sugar; rehydrates you (to an extent); and is easy to swallow (don't move on to solids yet).

Let that settle in your stomach for at least ten minutes or so. Then you need to swallow back two paracetamol and two ibuprofen (with half a glass of water). They'll knock the pain off, and relieve the 'swelling', throbbing sensation inside your head.

To help out your liver and kidneys (who are having a hell of a time working off all the disco juice) you want to take a teaspoon full of milk thistle (available at health food shops). That really gives those guys a boost, and helps to shake the 'dead' feeling from your body.

The next stage depends on how you feel - if after half an hour of taking your medicines you still feel sick, try for another bottle of coke and some sugary boiled sweets (and follow the next step when you can cope with it). If you feel like you might be able to cope with some solids, move on to some lightly buttered white toast, cut into tiny little squares. Because they're small, they're really easy to eat. Helps to soak up anything unpleasant left in the stomach too. If you can manage two pieces of toast, you should be fine. A cup of strong, sugary, white tea also helps at this stage.

For most moderate hangovers, you should be fine a little while after your tea and toast. If you're still feeling rough, it's time to move on to a traditional, full English fry up. Sounds grim on a hangover, but trust me, it works. The bacon, sausages, hash browns and toast are key. You can probably do away with the rest, especially the beans!

If you've woken up, and you can't even bear to open up a bottle of coke, try a few sips of water and get yourself back to sleep. Or to the hospital, you might be suffering from a serious case of alcohol poisoning.

Sleeping right the way through til lunchtime can get rid of even the most stubborn hangover.

Alternatively, if you've had a real skinfull, make sure you get a couple of pints of water down your throat (after the kebab) before collapsing into bed... you'll feel much better for it in the morning, and it often prevents the whole "Oh my God, i've closed my eyes and the room is still spinning at 100mph" sensation.

Not such a good idea if you've got a weak bladder though...

It works for me. Hope it does for you too.

If you want to have a drink without getting a hangover. "Do not mix your drinks" Clear spirits a less likely to give you a hang over. Be careful out there. If you find yourself not drinking a lot or even maybe not drinking anything particually strong. And then the next day you got a banging head and can't remember much. Then it just might not be the drink it could be some evil low life spiking your drink. I hope it isn't the case. You can't trust anyone.

Too much alcohol causes the body to lose water so you become dehydrated. The only cure for a headache is plenty of water and time. Prevention is much better. Start the evening off with a soft drink then have a soft drink between each alcoholic drink. This will only go so far to help (because too much alcohol is toxic to your body!) but it will stop you becomming quite so dehydrated.
Its not a good idea to take any medication before you drink (as someone else suggested!) because it can interact with the alcohol and could be very dangerous!!

I feel your pain. At least I used to feel your pain. No more. Now I prepare before I do some serious drinking. That's the trick. Before you go out, drink a glass of milk and eat a bowl of ice cream to coat the stomach. Then eat two slices of buttered bread. The only way to stop a hangover is to prevent one from happening.

Drink plenty of water in between your drinks. Try to remember the darker the drink, the worse the hangover! Sorry I don't know how to get rid of them.

Go for a walk, drink a lot of water and whatever you do DON'T DRINK ANY MORE ALCOHOL. The only way to make a hangover really go away is time.

A nurse told me once tha some tomato juice and a cheesesandwich is good, but if you cant handle this try a Pepsi and a Banana, and some Advil, and go back to bed for a couple hours

Drink lots of water even as you drink other alcohol drinks. Dehydration is the major cause of hangovers. Better yet, drink more water and less alcohol!!

Lots of water before you go to bed, a big greasy fry up for breakfast with a can of Irn Bru to wash it down. If all else fails, try another beer, works for this Penguin every time : )

what's worked best for me is V-8.I dont know why but that does the trick. I sometimes used to drink it before going to bed too but found out water was better at night and the V-8 when you wake up.
