Their unyielding belief in their religion and their unyielding intolerance for the next guy's unyielding belief in his religion.

For some reason, people percieve a differing opinion as an attack on their own beliefs (insecurity, perhaps). Instead of being firm in their own beliefs and tolerant of someone eles's beliefs they strive to "educate" the ignorant (other religions) into accepting the "right" way.

We fight over religion because the are so different yet they have similarities that we don't always see at first. Many people get so wrapped up in putting other religions that they don't realize they are going against the teachings of their own. Atheist against Christian, Muslim against Buddhist, Jew against Catholic; it's all a huge, vicious cycle that comes out to the same reasons. We don't understand another religion and therefore feel threatened by it when all we have to do is study it and see what it is all about. I'm not saying you should change your religion, but maybe if we learned a little more of such religions we might be able to respect it as its own. No one should judge something they know little or nothing about.

Consider this:

A society is capable of surviving for thousands of years unless it is attacked from within or without by hostile forces. where such an attack occurs, the primary targets are it's religious and national gods and heroes,it's potential of leadership and the self respect and integrity of it's members.
If you look around you , you will find countless examples of these points. They scream at us every day from the newspapers and TV.
Probably the most critical point of attack on a culture is it's religious experience. Where one can destroy or undermine religious institutions then the entire fabiric of the society can be quickly subverted or brought to ruin.
For the last hundred years or so religion has been beset with relentless attack. You have been told it’s the “opiate of the masses “, that it’s unscientific, that it is primitive, in short , that it is a delusion.
The source of this kind of attack is always covert and hidden. It is promoted by a few who have a vested interest in a slave society.
Unfortunately these few rely on creating fear and insecurity in others
to forward and promote their enemy propaganda. These others feel correctly they have to defend themselves from an attack, but because the real enemy is hidden, they can be manipulated to attack what they really should be defending as they cannot see the real enemy.

The key here is that underneath all these attacks on organised religion there is one fundemental target:
The spirituality of man, your own basic spiritual nature, self respect and peace of mind.

That is an excellent question, I believe that when ppl start to believe in one thing it is it, example (no pun intended to anyone), "religion" is man-made. One person has developed different churches. such as Jehovah Witnesses do not celebrate holidays, because they feel since they were not commanded to there is no reason. Catholics also have Mary in the prayers for strength and courage. However many of these do cause ppl to fight because one believes their "religion" is the right one, even though it may be right for them, it may not be right for someone else. We all should understand this: no matter how many religions there are, there is only one God.

The reality is that people are the reason we fight. All religions have peaceful ideologies.. despite what u might think! we all choose to se our differences rather than our commonalties! We all choose to identify ourselves in some way.. and then define “others” who are different. The most violent history of any religion has to be that of Christianity. However the message in the bible is 1 of peace, to love one another. This same message is in all doctrines of theology. The problem is that religion is such a powerful thing as most beliefs lead to faith in god. although people have their different interpretations of god, it is the idea that ones life on this world will continue after death that has been used to manipulate the masses. All 1 has to do is put enough propaganda out that WE are fighting for the true GOD, and WE will go to heaven if we die in battle. Now such an idea can be very destructive! although the abrahamic religions (those who believe in 1 devine entity) tend to have parts in their text which claim fighting is ok.. it is always the case that it is allowed in self defense.. and never an offensive attack.

Unfortunately political motives have always lead to wars, which have used religion as the banner to justify war. You do not have to read up on the history of wars to see this, as it is evident today in BUSH Jnrs campaign to obtain as much oil as possible, which is being done under a false campaign of propaganda which has made people fearful of terrorist attacks the whole time!! What iraq had to do with 9/11 or weapons of mass destruction is beyond me.. but we all know it has the biggest oil reserves in the world today!

Do not blame religion for violence.. it is only ever us (people) even atheist who will conclude in no god will still create divisions and commit violence (communists for example). It is unfortunately deep routed in ourselves... Even if we were all the same religion (the great war and ww2) we still fight.. see our differences rather than our similarities!

Something to bare in mind that I wish to bring into light which I feel relevant in 2days context. Is that the word for GOD originates from hindu scripts!.. that the word for god in ARAmaIC , the language jesus spoke (remember he came from nazereth, now an arabic speaking city).. is ALAHA (u can verify this in the Aramaic bible online). the word in Hebrew, 1 of its sister semetic languages is ELOHIM (pronounced v.similar to alahim), and we all know that in ARAbIC it is pronounces ALLAH. So please bare in mind it is the same word.. referring to the exact same god.. yet we choose to see the differences even when there aren’t any!!!

human beings reffer to religions as a fashion to look for wish of a few style. 1000's of years in the past human beings even used faith against one yet another as a fashion to make human beings do reliable deads. faith is an extremely useful ethic in on the instant's community and is extremely argued over. it quite is debatable because of actuality of the fluctuate in ideals. case in point, Christians have self assurance that god created the worldwide in 7 days (genesis) yet many different religions have self assurance in many different procedures of the beginning place of the universe. faith has continually led to Holy Wars yet human beings want faith as a fashion to discover closure and peace of ideas and believing that being a reliable individual and so on has reliable reprocussions.

Religion is such a personal thing, that when people hear a differing view they become insulted, as though being attacked.

some may think because their religious belief system is the only right one they have the right to tell everyone else what to do, conveniently forgetting the other persons right to free will and GOD is to big to be in only one place along with the fact there are many paths and ways to get to ones destination.

Each religion thinks they are the one true religion..that's not possible so it results in conflict...my god is better than your god, or god is on our side not yours etc...Religion is the problem it is not the answer.
