middle aged conservative man unmarried attending wedding in southern city at a baptist church - reception in the recreation area of a large park - I don't expect it to be very fancy. bride and groom in their late 20's and hip. trying not to stick out as the "old guy" and would prefer not to wear a suit. temp will be in low 70's but the two venues are polar opposite so I am a little unsure

Simple.

Find a nice colared shirt w/ tie and matching slacks, belt and shoes.

Bring a tie for the service, and take off the tie for the receiption since it's going to be outdoors.

It's the fall, so earth tones will fair nicely (browns, dk greens, etc)

Dress shirt with a nice tie. Stay away from boring ties like basic red or blue. Go for something more modern. Or if you go with a solid tie make sure you have a patterned dress shirt.

Khakis or dress slacks.

You could also do the blazer look.

Ask the bride and groom how casual/dressy the event is.

wear the suit - err on the side of caution. it shows effort, style, and respect for the occasion. get yourself a brightly coloured one if needs be... be like michael jackson... no wait, bad image. be like the cat on red dwarf - sharper than a page full of oscar wilde witticisms, rolled up into a point, dipped in lemon juice and jabbed straight into someone's eye :-D
also see music videos eg justin timberlake, orson et al for how to pull off smart casual suitage

but seriously, you should have got started on this days if not weeks ago. im the most disorganised guy in the world but can still get a smart but understated suit cleaned and pressed (just) in time for an important event eg wedding, interview...

given the timing just grab anything, have a shower, shave, comb hair, and make the very most of what you have to hand. personal grooming can also go a long way.

or you could go in a kilt or your mothers best dress for comedy value.

Wear a suit and have a bow instead of a tie. Go in black with black suit and trouser and shoe but a white shirt inside. Gel or comb your hair nicely and put a nice perfume.

Hope you will catch everyones eye and steal the show

We are going to a wedding today at 5:30- my fiance will be wearing a nice grey shirt and a pair of black dockers with black shoes. It is a very informal affair.

A nice pair of pants (not jeans) would be ok, in any color, as long as it doesnt match the colors of the wedding party.

It would be appropriated to wear a nice pair of slacks, dress shirt and a tie. It would be alright to remove the tie at the park. The dress shirt can be short sleeved. Don't forget to wear dress shoes and socks.

A nice pair of linen pants, a buttoned shirt and that doesn't mean it has to be white, one of the other users mentioned fall colors like brown, dk green which would look nice and a jacket that matched. I would hope you would go to a men's store so they could assist you in coordinating your clothing so you don't have extremes in color. You don't have to go to an expensive men's store. You can even go to a department store like macy/filene's or sears or jcpenny's and head to their men's section and ask for help. Good Luck and Have Fun!

I would think that khakis, a button down shirt and a smart navy blue sports coat would be appropriate. No tie and perhaps loafers of your choosing would match well. Hope this helps and have a great time!!
