Now is spiritually dead hell in of itself? No. Hell is a place in eternity for all those who chose not to believe when they were alive.

On Judgement Day, the unbelievers will go (the Bible says "be thrown", I think) into the lake of fire. I don't know if they will stay there forever, or if God plans to use the lake of fire as a trial. The Bible often refers to gold being refined in fire, which means Christians becoming more like God (I THINK, at least). I know that most people believe that the lake of fire will last for eternity, but I am not convinced either way.
