A delicious explosive Chianti Classico 2001 is produced by Cennatoio. They also make a reserve Chianti Classico called Oleandro. Amazing wine values. The Chianti Classico 2001 sells for $14.99 and the Oleandro Res. Chianti Classico sells for $24.99. Salud!

One of my favorites is Isole e Olena Chianti Classico. It is an elegant style Chianti, not as rustic as chiantis tend to be. It runs about $22 retail. The current vintage is 2003 and is drinking beautifully.

Big meaty, sausage, peppery aromas with cherry, tobacco, licorice, prune and leather nose. Rich, round, supple, balanced palate with slightly dusty tannins. Lots of smoky, peppery, meaty, spicy, tobacco, prune, cassis and chocolate flavours. Good intensity with good acidity. Should improve over the next 2-5 years. Expect this label to get a bit richer and cleaner as the new clones and plantings at Ruffino's many estates mature. In general The Ducale Oro Riserva is an 85/15 blend of sangiovese with merlot and colorino.

My experience with Chianti has not been very good. None of them seem to be consistent. My preference for use with pasta is the Italian winery Bolla's Bardolino.
