Do both at the same time.

If you strength train and build up or tone your muscles you will lose fat faster -> more muscles burn more fat. You may not be able to see the muscle definition until you lose the fat that is on top, but like I said the muscle will help you burn the fat off faster.

Doing any kind of exercise is better than doing nothing. I say this as I'm sitting here eating Harry & DAvid chocolate covered cherries. there are wonderful ways to lose weight. tons of plans,
pardon the pun, pills and alll kinds of things, some good, some dumb. bottom line, if you burn more calories than you take in, you'll lose weight. if you take in more than you burn you'l become jabba the hut. Later dude!

what you need to do is to lose weight first. if you are obese then move atleast to overweight. and if your are overweight move to obese then tone yourself.

in contrast to thin persons. they need to tone first. then gain weight in that manner it is easier. the weight gain can be caused by protein consumption and increase muscle mass. not fat.

I'd say if you diet and exercise both will occur together. Eat a healthy, balanced diet and engage in cardio and strength training and you will see results.
