I'm having a hard time. I know I've got to keep at it but this is what happens....
I relax my body, breathe and clear my mind as much as I can, concnetratingt on either nothing or my breath. I start seeing images of things/people in my mind I have never seen or met before. I have had this problem since I was young when I close my eyes. What is this and will passing this obstacle (if you can call it that) possible?

hez you're not having an obstacle thats the point of meditating...you could also practise astral projection. The point of meditating is to concetrate as much as you can.You can do this through a lot of practise but i advice you trying remembering those people this migh be a gift that you haven't discovered yet...

This is quite usual.
There are two ways of thinking about this depending on your meditation level, and the objective of the meditation.
If you believe you are having trouble with clearing your mind, then whenever an image appears, just acknowledge it, and get back to concentration on the breath. I find that concentrating on the air passing through the top of my nostrils enables me to concentrate more.

However, if you have already got passed the concentration problem, then study each image in detail. Observe it, knowing that it is not you, and that you are an outsider in the middle of a meditation.
Try to ascertain why this image has appeared. What part of your life has been the trigger.
Hold on to that one image, and don't let any new images interfere.
Disect it and analyse it in detail. There are likely to be several different identifiable parts, each with its own reason.
Disect each part in turn. This is a great opportunity to learn about yourself, which is one of the main points of mediation.

Proper meditation takes time and practice. I concentrate solely on some teaching of the Buddha when I'm meditating although it's a personal choice and some people use mantras etc. but the point is your mind becomes completely focused and when that happens the images you are seeing at present will no longer trouble you.

Sounds like you have some psychic ability and when you relax your mind this kicks in. When I get messages from my spirit guide I usually have my mind relaxed and in a meditative state.

Keep meditating and don't be discouraged. When these images enter your mind just let them pass on through and continue with your meditation. You may be training your mind for something else in the future.

Don't fight it...there is a reason these things are appearing. Allow them, since evidently, you (believe that you) can't disallow them. As they pass before your sight, ask, "What are these images...what do they mean?"

I have found that the more I meditate, (after half a century of it), the more I see images similar to what you describe...but if you just ask, it will be revealed to you what these things mean. I wouldn't call it a problem, because your deeper self is trying to tell you something...and I think you should listen.

seeing things that are new or foreign to you is not a problem when you are meditating. you are actually in a deeper state of relaxation than you have been in the past. the "pictures" are good, go with the flow and feel what the universe is trying to share with you.

True meditation is to fill ones mind not to empty it. To gain wisdom and knowledge. Who knows what things fill an empty mind. We are transformed by the renewing of our minds. They are given us to be able to think. Our car does us no good if we just leave it empty.

there seems to be more to this than meditation and perhaps even astral travel. these people and things you see might be coming from different dimensions and planes to assist you in developing different gifts. suggest you don't reject these experiences as they may become valuable in the future.
