Not sure what you mean by "left aloof" And I am positive you do not know what you are talking about.
As a sexually transmitted disease, it is most definitely communicable.
We are still learning about this killing disease; it may spread by methods other than sex or blood contact.
To try and convince someone that it is not communicable is both stupid....and criminal.

But...I'm only a layman

Where is the evidence that it is not communicable , where is it proven that a mosquito cannot transmit aids . Last I heard aids was a blood borne disease that is why paramedics and doctors all wear rubber gloves

we cant because it is communicable but hard, and one has to try. Most people are layman and believe the simple explanations. The stupider the simpler the discussion it needs to be.

you can convince a reasonable person by evidence freely available on the web. an unreasonable person dont bother with.
