You start dating a guy who obviously takes care of himself, well-groomed, and so on.

As the relationship goes on, you realize that he hasn't had a haircut or shave since your first date, he's missing more showers than he takes, and the ratty, holey clothes he's had since high school become a staple of his wardrobe.

Around the time your family is ready to meet him, he looks like he's been filming for "Survivor" for the past forty days.

Why do so many guys stop caring about their appearance once a relationship gets serious? I mean BASIC PERSONAL HYGEINE... showering, shaving... simple maintenance!

Is it because they're so comfortable in the relationship that they no longer feel the need to impress you? They say that if you really liked them, you wouldn't care how they looked. But how would guys feel if girls stopped showering, shaving, and gained thirty pounds out of nowhere? And often, if the relationship ends, they go right back to the way they looked before.

WHY?

The only purpose of grooming is to obtain a mate.

Once the relationship is underway, there is no need to bother with all that grooming.

When the relationship ends, time to get a new one, so time to look good again.

I suspect this is a vast generalization of men.

I also see complaints about men who care more about their own appearance
than what their date looks like.

If this has happened to you on more than a few occasions, then you probably
want to take a look at the cues you are sending out to see if you are somehow
inadvertantly encouraging it.

And of course, you could just say something: "Hey, what happened
to the Mr. Stud Clean Mkbeef I started dating?"

I have been married for five years & my husband totally has become this. All I can suggest is just to keep reminding him to shower, etc.

is up to you too, you have to remind them, guys sometimes needs assistance, like try being a mom. My bf when i met him ,he was in good shape now his tummy is getting bigger, so i told him to exercise coz their family have history of illness. He told me,"you should love me whatever looks I am now" I said" I love you as you are but i don't want to see you die" Try to help him, throw his old clothes, what he is going to do anyways when its gone. Get him new clothes. motivate him. goodluck!

These people have absolutely no pride, no self respect and no respect for anyone else. They are just so in love with themselves that they couldn't possibly know how to love anyone else. Move on.
