In the Koran there is a reference to rafeeka, which is discribed as the spriral of life. We have only discovered that spiral relitavly recently. We call it D.N.A. If that kind of knowledge is contained in that book, it makes you wonder about what else it can teach us. Picking out individual surrahs to prove a point dosn't work. You could also pick out many peaceful and loving ones to prove the point the other way. Its a book of guidence for believers, and most of that guidance is for the good of all. So no, I don't believe it is a book for hatred and war. The same applies to the Bible. There is much violence called for in that book too, but also much peace and love. Given that both books recognise Jesus as having been a real person, it is a tragety that it is on one issue, the son of God one, that SO much bloodshed has been caused over the years. Incidently, Jesus is mentioned more times in the Koran than he is in the Bible, which must mean something. There should be more understanding between ALL religions. There is but one God, whatever you choose to call that presence. We should all live in peace and love, and realise what a true gift life is. Why can't we put the guns down and talk? Sorry for this ramble, but it gets to me that people can try to destroy each other over beliefs that are essentually the same, but with different ways of achieving the same goal. I'll go and lie down now...

now that i am slowly discovering that the Qu'ran like other religious books is interpreted differently by Islamic Scholars and then these scholars pass on to others their interpretation as the truth then anything is up for grabs. It is no different to the bible in that sense so basically what u think of the Qu'ran has little to do with the authors original intention. u think its a book of hatred and war and another reader would think the exact opposite. Its bizarre

Koran is certainly not a book preaching hatred or war. Do not blame Koran for what few Mullahs are doing. No Mullah has ever been ready to sacrifice himself. However he preaches hatred. Young Muslim kills himself and others in the name of jihad primarily driven by hatred and malice. Koran is not to be blamed for these acts.

The Quran is very practical and deals with the harsh realities of life. In the parts where it does deal with fighting and war there are strict guidelines in justifying the battle. If you fight and the war/battle isn't justified you are ignoring the Holy Quran, very sinful. Where war is justified, there are also strict guidelines as to how to conduct the war. There is no hatred in the Quran. Where the Quran talks about the unbelievers burning in the hell fire these words are directed directly at the unbelievers! No Muslim should try and 'convert' or 'be hostile' towards the unbelievers, Allah himself will do this on the day of Judgement.

Benneth. I'm sorry to say it but what you and I think about the Ko-ran, does not matter. It's a book of hatred and war because satan wrote it that way. Even if you and I thought differently, it would still be a book of hatred and war.

I think a human being sees everything according to her/his soul and her/his internal life. And i think u r capable of fighting n to being hatred with all other religious of people in this world! So u think that any other religion like Islam might be involved in ur wild dream world! But itz not like that my friend! Quran orders us to be in peace with everyone n it orders to help people who r in need of searchin God n the truth!
One of them (nick named brinlarr) searched for surahs which includes fighting word in them but i think he doesnt really know what he is talkin about! If you have a brain n u can use it properly then u wont see a part of a whole! For ex. if you cut my words from whatever i wrote on Yahoo answers they wont make a sense at all! So u cant make a logical explanation or an example by takin parts from Quran. I can list u thousands of surahs included peace n love words in them! I recommend u to be logical!

Although I was born into a muslim family, I started to question Islam and faith since I was very young. Atheists had tried to talk me into believing there was no God. I kept on researching the web - went through the most anti Islamic sites, also went through Islamic sites. The sites only defied eachother and said things only against eachother. I decided to see for myself which side was true - and the truth had rung on me. I researched other religions and found them to be lighthouses to lead to the real truth - God's true religion, the religion Islam. I m glad others have found the same path - God bless them
Even Through all the negative media on Islam, we cannot deny the fact that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the whole world. Islam is turning as clear to us as it always had been. I ask Allah for forgiveness about the fact that I was so rebellious in my youth, favouring science to anything Islamic. But now i Know that science is just research which is everyday showing us the truth of Allah, His prophets and the Last Day. I will always be proud of the fact that I had found Islam through researching it, considering everything accused (wrongly, ofcourse) against it. I have understood Islam, Thank u Allah. I hope all who havent known true Islam find it with their heart - They do not know what they r missing.
Ever since my enlightenment, many of my friends, ahteists and agnostics have started to embrace Islam. Those who had been muslim r stronger than ever in their faith - Thank u for ur question - I hope it lightens those whose hearts have been confused with deception and misconception. I hope what I say helps. Peace be upon u.

I would like to respond to binlarrs post on this page and others wherein he is consciously misquoting the Quraan to make Islam seem evil. I do think that it is quite disgusting for someone to stoop so low.

He quotes the following verses :

1. Surah II: 98 – “Allah is the enemy of the unbelievers.” (binlarr)
Firstly the verse been quoted in Surah 2 Verse 97, the entire verse reads :
'Who is an enemy to Allah, and His Angels and his Messengers and Jibraeel and Mikaeel! Then, lo! Allah (himself) is an enemy to the disbelievers.' (Actual Verse)

2.Surah II: 191-193 – “Kill them [unbelievers] wherever you find them….Fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah.” (binlarr)

(Actual Verse) Surah 2 Verse 190
And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. And fight them not at the Inviolable place of Worship until they first attack you there, but if they attack you (there) then slay them. Such is the reward of the disbelievers.'

Actual Verse 191 goes on to say :
'But if they desist, then lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Actual verse 192 :
'And fight them until PERSECUTION is no more and religion is for Allah. But if they desist, then let there be no hostility except against wrongdoers'.

Basically I will not go through each of the quotes in his post as everyone one of them is either partially quoted of misquoted. I have yet to find any person who without misquoting or twisting words is able to prove that Islam is a violent religion bent on wiping out other religions.

I wouldn't waste my time or energy reading that anymore than I would the bible. In my opinion all religions are borne of hatred.
