there r major differences between the Sunnis n the shias
no:! the shias give more prefernce to Ali than to Muhammad.. n this is not acceptable.. since Muhammad is the prophet of Allah n Ali is the companion of Muhammad
second... the shiah hate the other caliphs of islam .. ie Abu bakr, usman n Umar.,.. dunno why,.. but they got some extreme hatred for them..
n this also is not acceptable to other muslims since we give equal respect to all the companions of the prophet wether it be Abu bakr, umar , usman or Ali
third.. they also pray differently from the other muslims...
fourth: their timings of prayers r also diff from other muslims .. that is their Fajr prayer is 10 minutes before the others.. n their maghrib prayer is 10 minutes after the others..
fifth: some shias also say that the prophethood shud have come to Ali rather than Muhammad.. n this also is not acceptable to other muslims
there r mannnny maannny more differences..
but we donot figth with each other..
its the outside hand thats doin all this .. so as to bring a rift between the sunnis n shias ..so that they figth within themselvess..
good tactics by the zionists!!!!

Historical animosity.
The beliefs of Sunni and Shia are virtually the same - all Muslims believe that there is no god but The God, and Mohammed is the messenger of God. All Muslims believe in the 5 pillars of Islam: declaration of faith, prayer, fasting, charity, and hajj.
There are a few minor differences in practices, but no more than the differences between, for example, different Sunni subgroups.
The divide occurred right after the death of the prophet (pbuh) when there was disagreement of succession of the leadership of the Muslims. Some people believed that Ali ibn abu Talib was the appointed successor, and some people believed that it was best to follow Abu Bakr, the successor chosen by a council of the closest companions of the prophet (pbuh).
Later Ali became the leader of the Muslims, and this should have ended the divide, but you know how humans can be - so it wasn't. They fought a big battle of Muslim against Muslim, and sealed the divide. Ali forgave the ones who fought against him, which, again, should have healed the divide.
I am Muslim. I think Sunni and Shia hate each other due to ignorance and a habit which has been passed to them by their ancestors.

It's got to do with the line of succession. Who took over as head honcho (A position technically not filled today, as anyone claiming this right would probably start a civil war -- that's what we'll see if they ever get their "world domination" after 100% of the world is Islam, the in-fighting to see who rules the world will begin and then Islamic will fight Islamic.)
Once upon a time there was the eqivalent of an Islamic "Pope" but today they are more like Protestants with a bunch of Clerics and Ayotollahs each controlling a tribe or region or faction.
No ONE person claims to speak for Islam today.

It started off as a political dispute. It has acquired religious overtones.
If you are referring to the situation in Iraq, then know that they co-existed peacefully until the US invaded and created situations for them to attack, kill and main each other.
They are after political power and religion has a lot less to do with it.
Republicans and Democrats are both Americans. Why do they attack each other during election time? The situation in Iraq is albeit the same, only they are shooting with their AK47's, not their mouths.

They are both muslims. I am afraid I do not have enough information about Shiaa to answer your question but I do not hate them. In fact one sunni friend of mine married a shiaa muslim and he is a great guy and they are happy together.

shiite dont recognize the other caliphs... they say that only Ali was the true leader and that Muhammed (pbuh)'s succesor should be somone of blood relationship with him... basically waht added fuel to the fire was that Ali (leader of these people) were killed by Sunnis... thats why they hate each other

the occupation to stop the sunni and shia from getting united against the occupation force.
sunni and Shia do not hate each other, Sunni and Shia lives with each other for years. you don't see sunni and shia killing each other somewhere in other muslim countries. it's only in Iraq and God knows who is behind it.

Religion and politics are just excuses people use to stir up the
masses, and excuse the real problems.
It all boils down to blood vengence. Killing peoples loved ones
will make them want to kill in return.
