I recently became engaged to the love of my life; however, I need help with planning my wedding. If anyone has any suggestions for a good wedding planning book, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I would avoid the books personally, go online to websites like theknot.com and weddingchannel.com (my personal fave b/c they have more variety in pics of things to get ideas from) and flip through bridal magazines to get an idea of what all you will need, and create a wedding binder filled with all your ideas and pics. You can keep all your wedding contracts and receips in their also so you will be organized! Also, Its a good place to keep your guest list and registry stuff, It has really helped me to have it! congrats and good luck!

I heave read dozens of them and the only two I consistently want to recommend are:

Miss Manners on Weddings

and

the Everything Wedding Planning Book (cheesy looking cover but excellent book)

The Crane Blue Book of Wedding Stationery and Etiquette is also excellent, but an online version of it is available, so you don't have to actually buy it.

...others I have read were OK, but several contained some really bad etiquette advice or had other glaring problems with them. The Knot's series of wedding books is kind of OK, but certainly not my top pick.

Check half.com and powells.com for used copies, so you can get several great wedding planning books inexpensively.

Although there is also a lot of help online and in magazines, there is also a lot of TERRIBLE ADVICE floating around, such as etiquette myths and corporations simply trying to make you and your guests spend as much money as possible-- not caring that the couple ends up looking rude, greedy, and ill-mannered. So research well, keep most of your planning under your hat, and always look before you leap. Remember, rude bridal couples are remembered that way for generations!

etiquettehell.com is also worth a read, as a diversion.

As a recent bride who planned her own wedding and someone who is starting an event planning business (including weddings), I have read so many books on planning, and really they all say the same thing, and most of it is stuff you already know.

I highly suggest going onto forums, www.WeddingAnnouncer.com has a free website you can create for your guests, free planning tools, and the forum is the best I've found.

The knot.com does have planning tools, but a lot of people have had problems with them, myself included. And depending on your local board, much of the talk on thier forums seems to be non-wedding related, and inappropriate. There are however some local boards that are helpful, so it just depends on your board.

The book- fire your wedding planner by stephi stewart seemed ok- it showed ideas on how to save money. you may be able to find it at your library or online even.

Otherwise, i wouldnt suggest going out and buying anything- you can get some great ideas online at theknot.com and other wedding sites. A lot of research! But dont forget to get a binder (i have 1 inch rings) to put all of the information you have acquired in it. I have mine separated by catagories, including one for contracts, one for registries and one for dresses. It will help keep you organized!

Good luck and congratulations!

Try brides magazine you might get some nice ideas there and also if you can afford it hire a wedding planner they usually do a really nice job and they are worth the money if you can afford it. If not then get your hands on everything you can like books ,magazines whatever and that should give you some ideas really nice ones I would think. Good Luck and Congrats.

I agree with Raquel. Don't waste money on any books. Theknot.com has everything you need to plan a wedding plus the message boards are a great place to find honest advice from local brides-to-be.

Hi, congrats!! It is better to do your research online at sites such as knot.com or blissweddings.com or weddingchannel.com. However, if you aren't organized, it can be overwhelming so I think it would be easier to purchase books that has things organized for you. I listed two books that'd would be helpful. In my experience, it was overwhelming that I finally created my own system in excel to keep things organized, such as guest list, invitation addresses, vendor listings, programs, gift trackers, checklist, etc. Also, you might want to build your own wedding site for free at http://www.weddingannouncer.com/.
