Ok this is a difficult dilema when not using the hairdresser. You have to strip out the red by using a paroxide that bleeches it white/blonde then a hairdresser would put on the top the colour you want it then to be.
You could bleech it out and then put a stronger blonde colour on the top.
Good luck

Try some lemon juice. It will give you blonde streaks at first, but I'm sure that you can work your way to a full head of blonde. If you live in a warm, sunny place just hang out outside with the lemon juice in your hair, it will get some blonde highlights.

Alas its really very difficult

My hair was black once and it took too long to grow out so i decided to use pre-lightenere that you would use with blonde dyes

however like the problem you seem to be having it went half orange and half bright blonde

I ended up having to dye it all black again because it went so bad
I think eventually as the black washed out it went back to being blonde again

Good luck its horrid when your hair never goes right

I remember a friend of mine who did a hairdressing qualification telling me that if you have two very different hair colours you want to switch between you have to grade the change - so you'd need to use paler and paler bleaches rather than making a huge leap.

Take care of it though - too much bleach will make your hair very fragile and wispy and might even make it fall out.

Sometimes it's worth paying a bit extra to have it done right!!! If you're not careful you could end up really damaging you hair and then it will look terrible whatever the colour is.

Use a really strong shampoo, like Head and Shoulders Menthol, as it takes most of the dye out of your hair. ONLY the menthol version works.
