fruits that have more calories are avocados and bananas. use soy if you can and any other source of protein such as beans and peas. make sure he gets his grains, brown rice etc.just make sure he gets a balanced diet and remember that many vegetarians are naturally lower in weight then those who eat meat. my daughter is vegetarian and she is by no means underweight or unhealthy, but her meat eating friends think she is "skinny" . she eats quite healthy, rarely gets sick, and has tons of energy. she has been vegetarian most of her life and is now seventeen. unless your son develops health issues clearly related to his vegetarian diet, do not be "scared" into feeding him meat. good luck.

I think you have answered your own question. Give him a balanced diet. Including meat. If his weight improves then you will see that you have been causing this problem with your child. if it doesn't you will know that it is not your vegetarian diet.

I was very light as a child myself, and the way my parents used was to offer me a milkshake every evening. I can't say I didn't enjoy it. I know it isn't a veggie, but it worked for me!

mmmm...im not very fond of vegetarian diets!
BUT i can tell you one suggestion:
Make an appointment with his doctor, or with a nutritionist....a nutritionist would be your best bet....and discuss this with he/she and see what they can come up with, they may even give you a reccomended diet!
Another thing, just because your vegetarian....doesn't mean your son wants to be....I mean, its all a personal choice....but he has that to decide on when he gets older.

Try to get him involved in sports to build up more muscle tissue. Muscle tissue weighs more than fatty tissue.
