Yes it can work. It doesn't always work as you've found out, but there are some genuine guys out there who are interested in having long term relationships. I've met several people online and had a relationship with two of them. They didn't work out but that was a decision we both made for personal reasons and nothing to do with how we met or about sex. Basically if you're going to meet someone online it would be a very good idea to spend a lot of time emailing beforehand, so you get a better idea of who he is. A few months is good because anyone who is only after sex would be more likely to get bored after that long. Also if they're lying about who they are it's more difficult to keep the lies going after a few months. It would also be wise to talk to the phone before you meet - use your mobile not home phone - and that will give you the chance to see how the conversation goes and what you have in common. This doesn't mean you won't meet another shallow guy, but it will help you get some idea of how you'll get on before the date. A genuine guy will be happy to wait until you feel comfortable with meeting up and take things at your pace. If he moans about it he's really not worth your time. Good luck.

Hey girl, I think you'll find a lot of people will say that its not safe and by the way your putting it as well your making it worse for me to explain that its not all that.
Yes, of course it isn't safe, but if you go to the right site, where genuine go then you will have a much better chance of finding the special person. I mean i met my partner through the internet and i know he is who he says he is becuase:
1) Ive spoken to him on the phone.
and
2) i've seen him on webcam and he has sent me lots of pictures.
Now i know you can say that still doesnt prove that he is who he says he is but it does mean that i know he is a real person, not some perve off the net kinda thing.
Theres no real way of telling whether the guy you are talking to is telling the truth or not, you'll just have to trust your instincts on that, and if the relationship becomes serious, you may eventually meet and find out the true man for yourself.
I didn't actually go on a dating site as such, i went on www.habbohotel.com. I don't reccommend this site personally, as i got fully addicted and all there is on there is silly children thinking they're clever and pretending they're 16 when in reality they are 12. You can tell easily if they're lying, kids have never been good at lying. I was just lucky to find my guy on there, and we began to be friends for a year before even considering going out with each other. We have now been together for almost 10 months and still going strong, we are hoping that in a years time we can meet up.
I'm not saying it will be happily ever after, becuase i know the chance of having a lasting relationship on the internet is very low. But if you keep working at it, something good may come out of it.
Although im backing up the whole internet dating thing i still believe you should be extra careful and don't give out any personal information until you fully believe that the person you're tallking to is real, theres thousands of pervs on there at one time, yet, thousands of genuine people who are looking for love.
Good luck..

Yes, it definitely works, and I'm living proof - I got married 3 weeks ago to a guy I met on an internet dating site.
Some sites are definitely better than others, so pick carefully. There's no doubt that it's a numbers game, though - with the best will in the world, you will still meet some odd people out there, but you should meet some nice ones too. I must've dated over 30 guys before I met my husband - some were lovely, others were downright weird.
Best of luck!

I met a girl years ago through a dating site. The relationship was fantastic online, I guess it is important to ensure that honesty with regards to your personal details and photos are true to how you are in real life. You tend to develop a mental picture and feeling about the person online and when you meet them, if what they are saying isn't quite true then you will only be disappointed when you both meet. For example. don't say your body is athletic build when your over weight. It just won't work.
I recommend dating sites in your city that have dinners and parties with these people. At least you can meet them and see where it goes from there. Dating sites are fantastic only if people are honest. Unfortunately some peole are desperate and fail because of lack of honesty.
Send me an email if you want to hear more about my experiences with internet dating. Happy to help.
Good luck with your search

Always a risk with internet dating however I know two women who are now happily married and met their partners through internet dating. A long shot but works for some.

People get to be who they most want to be when they use internet dating sites so you'll findit hard to actually meet the man of your dreams on there, although it has worked for many people it doesnt work for most, yur best bet is to get out there in the real world go to pubs clubs, take up a hobbie and find people that way, plus its probably much cheaper than the websites yur paying to use.

I met my wife through yahoo personals. I was on it for about 3-4 years and met many many people but I eventually found the love of my life. Just have patience and be smart and it will happen for you and it will be well worth the wait when you find that special person. Keep your head up!

It is very possible to find somone from internet dating, but you have to be very careful. There are some people on the internet that just wants to get in your pants. BUT this will make you re-think it, I found my fiance on the interent. I lived in North Carolina and he lived in Arizona...and we met up, and started dating...and then after 6 months of dating in person...and a year of talking online...we decide we would get married...and we get married in 3 months! Yippee....so YES , you CAN find a date on the internet....BUT be VERY skeptical...and make sure the person you start talking to, doesn't talk ONLY about sex...make sure they are interested in you.

To be completly honest...it's 50/50. My older brother met his wife on eharmony.com. They dated for two years before they tied the knot. It's now been 5 years and are expecting their first child....
Me, personally...I haven't had any luck. I was really into it several years back, but now I work so much and have my friends that I can't be bothered anymore...

I've never tried internet dating, but those problems you list seem like problems that a person might face in conventional dating also. Maybe you should give it more time.
