Dawn was what they used on the animals after the Exon oil spill a few years ago. If you leave it on for 10 minutes or so, it will kill the fleas. Wouldn't want to use it all the time as it will strip the oil from the dog's coat causing you more problems in the long run.
I use Bio Spot which is an otc flea & tick topical. It costs less than Frontline and Advantage and it WORKS! I've used it for over 10 yrs on all my dogs and on all the rescues that I have had.

If you ask your vet he or she will tell you that Dawn will kill fleas, you have to lather the dog up and leave the dawn on for a few minutes and rinse well. As for the ticks you will need to get a flea and tick spray or use Advantage or Bio Spot on the dog. If the ticks are embedded in the dog you will have to remove them. I have used rubbing alcohol to remove ticks, but you have to be sure that the head of the tic is attached to the body of the tick when you remove it.

No. This could hurt your pet or give it a rash or something. Just go to your Vet and ask for some flea control products - don't use dishwashing liquid on your dog.

What flea treatment made your dog sick? When I worked at an animal hospital, the Advantage rep came to do a sales call, all the employees attended. One part of the presentation he gave, was to have us all put a drop of Advantage on our fingers and lick it off. He did the same. To demonstrate how harmless it is- it's safe for use on young puppies & kittens, and is safe if your kids touch the dog. No harsh pesticides. So I can't imagine that Advantage would make your dog sick- if you haven't tried it, its available at your vet. The flea products you buy at the grocery store/walmart are all harsh "pesticides" and dogs getting sick from them is very common. They can even KILL cats. I would imagine Dawn would mostly serve to dry out your dog's coat horribly (it strips the skin & coat of oil) and wouldn't keep fleas from coming back.

On your animals? I wouldnt think so. Johnson's baby shampoo has a ingredient that has a numbing effect. This will immobilize the fleas on your pet for a little while so you can comb them out.

For a somewhat good home remedy for fleas, you can try avons skin so soft. Works like a natural repellant. good luck.
