8 hours is a good place to start. The younger you are the more sleep your body requires. Babies need 12+ hours, teens thru middle ages need around 8, the elderly can survive on 6 or so.

being a truckdriver, I can tell you that you do not REQUIRE ANY sleep in 24 hours to go about normal activities....but on a regular basis losing sleep can lead to all sorts of problems. So, to answer your question, Bodies need 6 to 8 hours of sleep every 24 hours. You can get much more or much less occasionally , and you CAN catch up on sleep, but your body cannot BANK sleep, so you can miss a few hours on one night, sleep a little more the next day, since you'd be feeling more tired than usual, but you can't say sleep an extra 8 hours tonite and plan on not sleeping at all the next....your body will tell you it's time for sleep just like it's been conditioned to do. Get plenty of sleep regularly and you will consistiently function at a more efficient level!

I believe it's usually 8-9 hours. The body is an amazing thing though, and can function on less sleep than that. But with less sleep comes less REM sleep. And scientists and psychologists believe that is the period of sleep in which the body heals itself. So it's best to get a decent amount of sleep each night. Too much sleep, however, can be quite harmful, and will result in you feeling more tired.

I would say anywhere from 7-8 hours. It all depends on how active you are and your age. If you go to school then you need more sleep. Just all depends on the person.

Age plays a big part in how much someone needs to sleep. The older you are the less sleep the body needs. I aim for 10 hours in 24.

Everyone's sleep requirements are different, and they change as you age.
To be effective, your sleep needs to contain one full cycle of sleep: starting at stage 1, drifting through 2, 3 and 4 into deep sleep, and then a stage of dreaming, called REM (rapid eye movement). The time it takes to go through one full sleep cycle is approximately 4 to 5 hours on a given night. The cycles take less time as the night wears on. Most people sleep seven to eight hours a night, which takes them through two to four sleep cycles. If you try to get by on just one cycle, you will need to catch up on the loss of sleep within a few days if you want to continue to function with no loss of mental acuity.
While the average person sleeps 7 to 8 hours, some people need 10 or more hours, and others get by on as little as five. Infants can sleep 12 hours or more.

8 hours, except for some people who want to "live 20 hours a day". They would just sleep for 3/4 hours. But that is not good for your health.
