Do you take the towels, when you check out?

Anything else? Ashtrays, Bible, comforter, pillows?

No. The customers should not take these items. They (the items) have been paid for by the motel/hotel for the use of their guests while they are staying there.
Although, it is ok to take the complimentary bathroom stuff (shampoo, lotion, etc.) with you.

No, I'm not inclined to do that. For one thing I don't really want to take towels into my home that have probably been used by hundreds of people. Same with the comforters and pillows, yuck, in fact we usually toss the comforter off the bed before we sleep in it (they don't wash them often) and sometimes take our own pillows. It would feel wrong to steal a Bible. We usually stay in non-smoking rooms, and even if we didn't would have no use for an ashtray, plus they don't even put real ashtrays in a lot of rooms anymore, they put those disposable ones. I don't even take the shampoos or soaps because they are usually cheap kinds and I feel like they dry out my hair and skin. The exception I made was when we stayed at a luxury hotel and they had great bathroom products and lotion. I do take the pens and little notepads they leave in the rooms though. And of course the free newspaper they slip under the door.

I know how you feel. It is bad for the motel and bad feelings for your soul regarding this kind of people. Many h/motels are trying to prohibit these types of actions and post an announcement in the room. But recently I was in the hotel where visitors encouraged to take this stuff with the after staying here. The announcement was to thank them to use their brand and for a loyalty to this hotel. It was so easy to see that you have been offered to take the Holy Book or even they proposed to help to obtain a nice copy by pouch ( I am sure they helped by the Church). For other small, but good quality items (towels, perfume, soap, etc) they requested to pay a symbolical price at the reception during your check out. For the frequent visitors who are often here and buy their stuff they provided a certificate "Friend of the Hotel" with a set of the items. It was useful for the corporate deals. So, some good ways may help people to get better. It will not stop some people, but you would have a better feeling with others. Good luck!

I think some might justify the "whys" as to taking items (they paid enough, why not?) ..I have taken an ashtray or a towel in my much younger years (thinking you've gotten by with something), but the truth is it is "stealing" and one should be charged with theft.

When you stay in a motel or hotel they would usually provide you the pillows, towels, soap, things to cook with in the kitchen and if your lucky sometimes even a bible. Well that's in Australia.

I accidentally took a really great bathrobe, when I got home and discovered it I called the hotel, they said keep it, we have already billed you for it!!
Love the trial size products, especially when they are avaida, or another brand I like..but never take the soaps just don't use them and think it wasteful

You can probably get away with taking the bible. Those are placed by the Gideons and not owned by the hotel. You will go to hell for it but not jail. The rest? If they do not have you arrested they Will bill your credit card.

If you take anything from a motel/hotel without permission, it's stealing.

I leave the room neat and leave the supplies behind. My daughter worked in many hotels and can tell HORROR stories! People are worse than animals.
