I am a Veterinary Nurse and have worked with a Veterinary Dermatologist, Westie's unfortunately can suffer with skin problems and I saw many Westies for referral to the specialist during this time.
West Highland white terriers, or "Westies," as a breed, seem to have a higher incidence of airborne allergies than many other breeds, although there are certainly many breeds in which this disorder is quite common. Airborne allergies are typically manifested as pruritus (itchiness) of paws, underarms, groin area, ears, and/or the front (flexion surface) of the elbows or rear legs. This type of allergy usually begins with just pruritus and no visible signs of redness or irritation. It is only later, when self-trauma (licking, rubbing, scratching, etc.) and other secondary problems occur that the skin is likely to appear abnormal. Because the tendency to airborne allergies is thought to be hereditary and because dogs have often produced or fathered their first litter before the full scope of these allergies in an individual is manifested, they can easily be passed on to their offspring generation after generation. Many breeders themselves do not realize that these allergies are hereditary, nor are they usually informed of allergy problems by the purchasers of their puppies, who don't realize it themselves. Thus the trait is perpetuated.
My advice would be.....see the vet...these patches could get alot worse

I Am Guessing That Your Question Is "What Is This Rash On My Dog Westie"? And The Answer To That Is Allergy's. My Dog Had A Rash Under Her Chin And I Gave Her Benadryll For Like 2 or 3 Days And It Cleared Right Up.

Sounds like he is allergic to dustmites or possibly pollen, there are shampoos that can ease it, but a trip to the vet would be best. The vet will not be surprised to see a westie with this complaint as they often suffer with skin disorders. I think the shampoo is called malesseb, we lost our westie in Jul after 14 years and still miss him now they are lovely dogs.

I have a westie and not long ago she had small red pimples on her skin. We took her to the vets and they said it was a skin infection which spreads if not treated. I would recommend that you take your dog to see a vet cos if it is that it wil only get worse unless you do something about it.

either flea allergy or food allergy which is probally more likely as westies suffer with skin problems which is normallly down to food intolorance, try feeding nutro, wafcol or burns might take a month or so to work but in the long run is well worth it!

my dog does this too, likes and chews at his paws until they are red and sore looking, vet says it is an allergy, at different times of the year are different allergies, grass, pollen etc also new carpet, tried eveything but still does it, even tried bitter tastes like limes, he licked it off, i think it is habit forming, i just say PAWS loudly and he stops for a while.

Sounds like fleas or an allergy to something. Try a medicated shampoo and a flea treatment.
