When ever i walk farther than 200m or something, i get a stich, but when i run i dont dont get one. I am a teenager who weighs just over 9 stone. I play rugby 5 times a week and go to the gym 2 times a week, so I am not unfit! I probably dont eat enough fruit and veg (who does) but am not too bad. I have a reasonably balanced diet and try not to have too much chocolate or sweets, but sometimes go mad. So why whenever i am walking (just normaly, like in town or something) do i get a tight feeling just below my rib-cage?

Stitches are caused by carbon dioxide not be expelled from the lungs. Breathe out more than you breathe in for a while that normally cures it. Well, it works for me. If that doesn't work maybe you have a problem and should see your doctor.

There are a few reasons why you get a stitch but breathing is the most likely. Next time you go for a walk try to find out which foot you breathe in on and try to change feet. I know it sounds crazy but it does work! I used run and got a stitch all the time but after changing which foot I breathed in on I didn't get one again

the main reason for getting a stitch (well for me anyway) is if i have eaten just before i go and do any exercise. However if you are saying that you can run and not get one I suggest you to to the docs and see what they have to say.

stitch is a build up of lactic acid in muscle. Breathe more steadily and deeply when exercising and this will help get rid of it.
