No, the Qu'ran doesn't tell women to wear a veil.
It states that the brides of Mohammed had to wear veils when in company of other men.
This is generally interpreted to mean that all women should be covered when in the prescence of men.

The Qu'ran does not compel women to wear the veil. That is a later cultural adaptation by more patriarchal cultures, just like head covering among some orthodox Christian and Jewish sects.

Some young girls in UK are taking the veil even though their mothers never wore it, so there is no family tradition, to them it is like getting a nose or eyebrow piercing.
They do it for group identity, to get attention and as an act of passive aggression against the rest of the British citizens they don't want to interact with, they are saying to other Muslim and non-Muslim girls, "We are better than you and you are just sluts for not covering your faces"...for goodness sakes.
A veil doesn't make someone chaste even if this is the image they try to put out, it's passive aggression and one-upmanship.
If they were William Tellists they would go around with an apple balanced on their heads I suppose... and think themselves sh!t-hot.

If a persons religion asks for a particular mode of dress this is a matter for the individual.
It is when the PC brigade start putting silly restrictions on others, usually us Christians that I get annoyed.
Take the case of the BA worker suspended for wearing a cross but other religions working at BA are allowed to wear turbans and other indicators of their religion.
Live and let live is the best way to carry on life and leave others alone to follow their religions in their own way.

I fully support the right of women to wear the face covering, but if she is teaching children how to speak English, the children really need to be able to see the movement of her face. If she must wear the niqab, she should seek a different employment. If she enjoys teaching children, she should remove the niqab during class, and put it back on when she leaves the classroom. It is not an Islamic obligation, but a choice she has made. She has a right to that choice, but if it makes a particular job impossible, she can't take that job. Its pretty simple, really.

It is not that complicated. The veil is just a cheaper alternative to electrolysis, which didn't exist until recently. The custom of wearing the veil has, like other useless religious customs, has just become ingrained in the culture. Men are encouraged to wear their beards in Islam, women must hide theirs.

Pls keep it mind it’s a wrong interpretation of few Muslims scholars. The real thing if u read it in Sura Nisa is that Allah ask woman to cover their bodies like men cover but as their breast are also part of private part so that they should cover them also and wear only that type of clothes which don’t reveal their body curves. That’s all.
You don’t need to cover ur face at all. It’s all rubbish by our orthodox scholars

No, it doesn't, it advises women to dress modestly. I've heard all this cr** on the radio for weeks and I'm sick of it, you can bet your sweet *** if it was the guys that were wearing the full attire they'd be interpreting the Koran to the letter, i reckon the guys get some sort of kick in having their wives dress like this, especially when they're following them six paces behind, rather like having an obedient dog.
These extreme Muslims should lighten up and learn to get on with everyone else, it's a small world dudes !!!

Let us just get this straight, if by 'veil', you mean 'hijab', covering the head, but not the face, then the answer is YES.
If by 'veil' you mean 'niqab' that is covering the face, then then answer is NO.
Please view the link below for an answer to a similar question.
And I think any way, you do not need to concern yourself with it that much. Everyone is responsible for their own choices and decisions. Since they are doing you no harm, what do you care?

I remember the thing with Jack Straw, as far as I remember their was a girl being interviewed who prefered to wear her veil hiding her face but I think its a personal choice, only the head is required to be covered, not the whole face. So its up to you if you cover your face or not.
