I am a 40 year old single woman and I'm not into clubbing anymore; I have many hobbies but most of them are very female orientated e.g. yoga. I also go to the gym and swimming but I have not managed to find anyone. Has anyone got any ideas?

Rock or wall climbing (lot's of clubs around if you look for them). Lots of healthy fit men there. (and some unhelathy unfit ones like me as well).

Tennis is fairly social but there is generally an excess of (married) women at most clubs.

Golf is a bit cliquish, bridge and bowls players' average age is >60.

Art classes are a possibility; if you cannot draw, you could display your wares by offering to model for the class.

Dance classes come to mind but having two left feet, I have no knowledge of the age groups and sex mixes at the different styles of dance.

As trips to the gym and yoga suggest that you have a reasonable body, there must be a barrier that has prevented you from finding a decent chap. It is possible that you have scared off some gentlemen by being immediately forthcoming with details of your marital status?

yep, I got a very good idea for you. As you like swimming learn to scuba dive, it is a sport that is very male dominated and they are very fit an mostly 35-50 sort of age range. There will be a centre somewhere in your area, but if you have to travel a bit don't forget so do the men, chances are you will meet men there from your area anyway. Although I am happily not single, I scuba dive on a regular basis and there is always a lot of nice fit chaps on the dives that are mostly single.

My husband says lap dancing, but I would suggest watching rugby with a friend and frequenting a rugby club always lots of talent there. Maybe you should try sports like squash or badmington they always have a good social scene.

When you go to the super market check out the ''meals for one aisle''. Any man down there is bound to be single. Accidently bump into the good looking one, works every time!
On a more serious note though, you will find someone hun, when your not looking for it! x

Try building a model railway, then put an ad in your local paper asking for volunteers to help - you'll be inundated!
