What he really means :
He'd like to take you to dinner, but cant find the words as he's a little low on self confidence (understandable), so he's hoping the conversation will run around to the point that you take a step towards showing him you feel attracted to him, at which point he will feel confident enough to either ask for another date, or ask you out to dinner and maybe start a relationship.
His comment is designed to let you know he feels happy, comfortable and confident talking to you, and that what you have to say is as interesting and meaningfull to him as it would be coming from a friend of many years.
Quite a compliment if you ask me.... He likes you !

that means he's very comfortable around you... as if it was natural... and that all the guards are down... you're like friends... w/ trust...ease n comfort... playfulness... n closeness... its a good thing when a guy says that! you answered your own question by sayin you hit off right away because it meant you got along real well and that's what it is like with someone you've known for a while

Probably he thinks he knows you but he doesnt he just wants to do you thats all but if youve known him for a long time then that means he rili means it but if youve just met then he just wants you in bed

means he feels comfortable with you, but it doesn't mean you should rush the relationship/sex. Just because he feels it, doesn't mean he really does know you.
