for a long time wood has been the main option when structures of such nature are constructed.maybe a new option is needed.

To answer this question you need to check out the Building Materials section at your local library.

Answer it in terms of:
1) Chemistry:
Wood is a composite plastic and fibreous and prone to biological attack etc
2) Plastics can be given various fillers to alter their properties and make them fibreous etc

2)Physical Properties
(durability, corrosion, surface finish, thermal expansion, thermal conductivity ,moisture movement etc)

3) Costs:
Ease of fabrication, emplacement, and materials costs etc
Skill level of installer

Any other things that you think are relevant.

Don't forget to include Metal Framed windows

There are plenty of aluminum frames out there. Plastic will deteriorate when exposed for a long time to sunlight.
