I have a 5.1 speaker system that I am hooking up to my PC to replace my old dodgy 2.1 speaker system.

The sub on my old system was slightly wider, but shorter than the new one, and the new one is about 3cm too tall to fit in the same place. Is it safe to put it on it's side instead? Will it make any difference?

Bass speakers are less "directional" in other words it doesn't matter where you place them in a room and the sound will permate the same. However, the smaller high frequency speakers are much more directional and a small change in position will affect the sound. They are opposite to each other, hence it doesn't matter how the sub- woofer is placed.

There's no proble at all. You can place your subwoofer in the way you like. It's just a speaker in a wooden box (what can go wrong here?:)) But the producer fitted the sub. with some small legs to prevent the sub from moving on the ground or to sound poorly than normal!

Unless it has special feet or vents it will make zero difference to the sound. So yes it is safe.

Yes,but be aware of any heavey crossover networks that might be fixed to the base of the unit.Make sure they are secure.

Any position as long as vents are not blocked.
