The halo represents an aura or glow of sanctity which was most prominent around the head and was conventionally drawn as a circle. It first appeared in the art culture of ancient Greece and Rome, and was incorporated into Christian art sometime in the 4th century
Buddhism

Spiritual Significance
Some think the halo symbolizes the saint's consciousness as 'radiating' beyond the physical body, and that it serves as a pictorial reminder to the saint's devotees of the saint's transcendence of the physical body"

It is the increase of the energy field which is around every living thing when this energy increases it is visible to all and thus the halo can be seen it is the aura that has gained strenght.
One more thing the way you described god and odd, is unique but did you know that when read and understood straight by people it is god. and for those who do not understand the reverse is dog so take it straight or backward the choice is yours

Actually halos are just hula-hoops that got shrunk in the wash. The holy have them floating above their heads (a) because being dead gives you the power to levitate other objects and they just can never get over how cool that is and (b) as a constant reminder of the evil of gyrating pelvises that still exists in the mortal realm...

Halos are merely supernatural "crowns":

1Co 9:25 And every one that striveth for the mastery refraineth himself from all things. And they indeed that they may receive a corruptible crown: but we an incorruptible one.

2Ti 4:8 As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming. Make haste to come to me quickly.

Jam 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for, when he hath been proved, he shall receive the crown of life which God hath promised to them that love him.

1Pe 5:4 And when the prince of pastors shall appear, you shall receive a never fading crown of glory.

Rev 4:4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats, four and twenty ancients sitting, clothed in white garments. And on their heads were crowns of gold.
