As far as I can tell, there are three kinds of guys who write poetry: Gay, emo, and serious writers. I'll just assume you're the latter of the three. If your girl doesn't like poetry, don't write it for her — you'll just end up being disappointed at her lack of appreciation. Personally, if a guy wrote a poem for me, I would be seriously freaked out.

I think your girlfriend was looking for a way out of the relationship and by telling you that only gay guys write poetry,is lame! Was William Shakespeare Gay? NOPE...There's alot of guy's who write poetry,I'm one of them, and I'm not gay.But even if I was,it is not a bad thing. I think she didn't know how to end it,so she chose to go at it this way! I have to say,DON'T give up writing just because she doesn't approve! Good luck to you...

Take it from a normal guy... poetry isn't gay. Anybody who has a brain can tell you that you can actually get more sex WITH poetry anyways. Calm down. You're young, poetic, and some girl left you because you have talent... go get yourself someone better, and when you drop her off after PARKING for a few hours, think about that stupid girl who dumped you because you have a brain... and laugh.

you just said "my girlfriend", and you're a guy. does that sound gay to you? write your poetry and don't worry about what she thinks, or anyone else for that matter. and if you're that worried, alot of girls like that stuff anyway, so you should see it as an interesting and unique talent that you can use to pick up more chicks.
and check this out:
if you have any musical talent (and you really don't need as much as you may think, i know that from experience), get involved with a band and be the main writer of this band's lyrics in songs. if you do that, tons of girls will be interested, and you will have the satisfaction of rejecting HER instead.

If I wasn't old enough to be your mother I would date you. That is romantic and beautiful. You would know best if you were gay but writing poetry doesn't mean someone is gay. If so then Jim Morrison was gay or Ozzy osbourne or a number of other great artists. Wait Jim Morrison did have a questionable sex life; scratch that

No, of course not! Don't be silly, in fact I think it's really awesome that a guy writes poetry. And yes, you surely should.

If poetry is gay then all song writer are gay cause most if not all songs start out as a poem.
She did you a favor.. Now you can find a real girlfriend that will like you for you.

I'll be honest with you, that poem's pretty gay and sappy. I'm a romantic myself man, but the key is to write how you really feel, not how you want her to think you feel. No, poems are't gay,and neither necessarily are the guys who write them. In fact, give her this poem next time you see her and you'll feel allot better.
Love renewed;
What I felt for you was true,
You broke my heart and my blood splew.
I wonder if you ever knew...
I wanna bone your mother.
(followed by an optional, riskier verse)
First glance at her and my d ick grew.
Sweet sexy lips, and thick legs too.
I wonder what happened with you?
Can you hook up a brother?
-Billy
She should respect poetry after that.

Wow, tho you're both still young, she's sure narrow-minded... definitely NOT a romantic. :( Most women of any age would LOVE a guy that's so thoughtful, creative, romantic, expressive, and talented... or that CARES enough to put such sweetness into words just for them!
You keep writing, and keep looking for a girl that will appreciate being the LUCKY subject and recipient of your beautiful words. Someday she may feel differently, or she may never be the type of woman to appreciate a guy like you, but I guarantee, someone else will!
