In the field of medicine, the Bible says in the book of Leveticus, Ch. No.14, Verse No.49 to 53 - it gives a novel way for disinfecting a house from plague of leprosy… disinfecting a house from plague of leprosy. It says that… ‘Take two birds, kill one bird, take wood, scale it - and the other living bird, dip it in water… and under running water - later on sprinkle the house 7 times with it.Sprinkle the house with blood to disinfect against plague of leprosy? You know blood is a good media of germs, bacteria, as well as toxin - I hope u people does not use this method of disinfecting the OT, the operation theatre.

Didn't you know about salad bar Christianity?

It applies to the whole Old Testament, but especially Leviticus. It means that whatever you like about the OT is 'God's immutable word'. Whatever you don't like about the OT, however, is 'the old law' which Jesus did away with.

They call it 'salad-bar Christianity' because you can pick-and-choose, like at a salad bar. I prefer to think of it as 'Play-Doh Christianity' because you can mould it into any shape you like.

But I wouldn't be surprised to find fundamentalist Christians in the world who really do the process you outline above...

Some of the translations from the Bible must be evaluated carefully.
Read very carefully how the Bible instructs you to evaluate whether a person is stricken with leprosy. Medically, the disease that was described in the Bible does not resemble the one we now call leprosy. We dont really know what disease the Bible was referring to.

But what we would probably agree is that the method you quote for sterilizing a house would not be scientifically defensible.

Unfortunately, scriptures like this often split the Biblical scholars into two camps...the one camp says that it believes the literal translation of the Bible, no matter how absurd it may seem. The other camp assumes that the Bible holds some truths, but not everything in the Bible is accurate. (I am of this second camp)

Those who hold that none of it is true are not usually Bible scholars.

Is the Leprosy bacteria from 3000 years ago, the same as today? Consider that we are now using leaches and maggots in medicine. We may not understand why they did it that way, but it may have been because of the leprosy strain of the time.
