Part of the way they control their body temperature is by shedding hair: the colder the environment, the less hair they shed.
There are some pills on the market designed to reduce the amount of shedding for indoor cats, but I couldnt tell you the name of the product- I'm just aware it's out there.

Cats have soooo much fur its untrue. Its something crazy like 2000 hairs per square centimeter. They are bound to shed. They obvioulsy mault in summer months to keep them cooler, but mine are still maulting quite badly at the moment too. It will get less as it draws closer to winter, but they will always shed some. Get a good cat brush and groom them everyday - that certainly helps! Otherwise, you could experience what I used to and find balls of fur running across your laminate floor like tumbleweeds!
Its perfectly natural so dont worry. Although if they have any 'bald' spots, you will need to get it checked out!

cats need to shed hair for the summer because they get hot. I would advise getting some lint rollers

Well first off its not uncommon for this to happen to cats, unless its bald patches here and there. If thats the case ring a vet a he/she will tell you what the problem is and you will be getting the right advice. Its the price of a phone call. Just to be on the safe side
