Why do they always serve peanuts on planes?

Actually the REAL reason, is that it used to cost money to buy drinks of any kind, so they offered up salty free peanuts to make the passengers thirsty and therefore buy more drinks.

To prevent the irratating & aweful ear pain everyone experiances while flying and the peanuts and beverages they give you help prevent this. When you swallow, or open the ear canal to your throat this reduces the pressure on your inner ear preventing this discomfort. You could always yawn, try popping your ears, but peanuts and 7-up are cheaper for the airline and reduces this effect. Chewing gum during a flight also helps this condition cause your constantly swallowing juices from the gum.

most people like to eat peanuts, there is not much room to store snacks, and peanuts can be stored easily, also peanuts make people thirsty, and they will order beer or mixed drinks...most bars put out free popcorn or peanuts to keep customers thirsty...it is about $$
