There are -- as early plantation owners in North America and the Caribbean found out -- jobs that certain races and cultures can't or won't do. Before kidnapping and importing slaves from Africa, plantation owners tried to make slaves out of Native Americans.
Higher pay will change the result only somewhat. Machinery may become economic and practical at some market price for the goods.
And some manufacturing and processing and agriculture simply will close down in one country and reopen in another. Why should certain investors be subsidized by liberal immigration policies: http://snurl.com/pickers
On the other hand, much of the immigration problem is caused by GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES that shouldn't be there, causing overproduction of products such as corn, sugar, cotton, rice that are dumped on foreign markets, bankruptcing foreign farmers and causing their workers to emigrate to the USA from Mexico and to Europe from Africa.
To do work that locals will not do for the pay on offer, or perhaps not at any price. But then it's fair to say that such jobs shouldn't exist.

It is baseless rhetoric up to a point. The US citizens today are spoiled. The kids are out of control because parents are not allowed to discipline their children, but that is another topic. However, the wages that the illegals are paid is generally way below standard. The companies get away with it because the illegals have no one to complain to. Yet for the illegal, it is more money than they would make in Mexico. US Americans would do the job but the wages would have to be raised.
babysag12... Not sure what your dates are about but blacks have had the right to vote for a LONG time. The 15th amendment, ratified in 1870, right after the civil war gave them the right to vote. Then as far as being "brought over here", your own people in Africa sold other blacks to the white man to be slaves. Here again, the last of the slave trade ended with the civil war in 1865.

Illegal Immigration has struck a major blow to American citizens that are known as the "Working Poor". Also to Black Americans the illegals have been devastating financially. I have about 2.5 years of college. I was not considered to be a member of "the working poor" however you can't do much in this country without a completed university degree. Still I managed to find lucrative work with good benefits by working in customer service call centers. The last one was through General Electric Consumer Finance. I was accurate, and polite and called "a natural" for my delivery of excellent customer service. After 9/11 the bank and finance industries took major blows. All 300 of us at that worksite were laid off and it closed. Now 3 yrs later I am forced to take jobs for much less money and benefits. I can not get a job in customer service anymore. Why? Because they only hire you now if you speak both English AND fluent SPANISH. It's kind of shocking but in my own country where the national language is still English (a few yrs ago I heard an immigrant group was trying get America's official language to be both English and Spanish. Did this law get passed and I'm just unaware of it??!) A friend of mine who has worked in a call center for 15 yrs with a well respected, national company, told me that each time the company hires a new group and they are showing them around it's like 30 ppl. Out of that 25 are hispanic the other 5 are white and black. (Deep Sigh) I'm living on about half of what I used to make I don't know...of marching will help. George Bush supports them not us. Wealthy people like hiring a illegal hispanic nanny and paying her half of what they would pay an American. I just don't see this thing ending. I see it getting worse and in about 3 elections we will have our first mexican american president of the USA. He will have been an "anchor baby" to his parents who still speak no english b/c the new language for the usa will be spanish. Anyway I was telling my husband that the only thing I can think to do is maybe move to Canada. They aren't in Canada yet and in many areas of Canada all you need to speak is English to get a job.

Totally baseless rhetoric.I have done most "jobs Americans won't do".Of course I did it at the going rate and spoke English.Which now I hear is a minus and not a plus.
Firms that hire illegals must be give a fine large enough that it hurts .Second offense they should be closed down. It would only take a few before all that hire illegals would get the point and stop hiring them. With no jobs available to them they would stop coming here.Until that happens there is no incentive for them not to come.

I'd pick fruit if I knew where to get that job. I am also probably going to end up washing dishes. I don't mind. I think it's baseless rhetoric. The reason so many illegals end up at those jobs is because of wage competition. They are illegal anyway, so the employer can pay them less without being any more of a criminal.

Unfortunately this statement dose have some truth to it, but in that same instance it is false. Coming form a woman of color it is an insult. Because 60yrs ago we couldn't even vote and we were born and brought over her to do jobs the wealthy didn't want to do. Now there passing a law were illegal immigrants can vote and pay taxes even though they broke the law that is BS at its highest point. If they pass a law of this substance that means everybody in jail who went to jail for stealing, selling illegal drugs, or making money to make it for there "family" they should be released for that. Because that is BS for them to get a free ride because there country suck.
Now the true part is the illegal do jobs normal citizens would not even apply for. That's there choice though. Again about 60 yrs ago black people had no choice. The illegal immigrants have a choice. Holla

Baseless, I worked in the fields for years, my parents did too. The problem I had was that a lot of the "bosses' didn't speak English and told my friends that I wouldn't be able to understand their instructions so they wouldn't hire me...ironic isn't it...That I couldn't speak a foreign language, therefore I couldn't get hired in my own country. Around here another problem is that so many of the bosses have family and friends to put to work for them and they all say that "gringos" are stupid & lazy and don't know how to work. Bunch of BS if I may say so.

I truly have. I rapid my activity coaching in an inner city public college after the Black vital went after me because of the fact she is going after Whites. i will in no way submit with it lower back! It does no longer ensue in my church. and that i'm no longer even working for President. think of that! of path, that replaced into Black racism and that doesn't even exist no longer to show count selection, ideal? i think what you're truly asking is that if we heard somebody being racist against Blacks did we renounce/stop.

I often wish to be a cook in a little restaurant -- nothing fancy or anything. But I can't get the job because I don't speak enough Spanish to work with the other people who usually fill such positions :(

legitimate statement.. After Hurricane Katrina. lots of evacuees went to Houston, Atlanta etc.. They were living off the govt before and they are still doing it after. Even though many of them could get a job, they don't. Fema and the red cross are still paying for their living expenses and it makes me sick. Get a job!! Be responsible.
