Thank you for your answers.I have tried giving them snacks. That way they don't want to eat until 9pm,which is their bedtime. And for some of you,i am not killing myself to do this.I wish for it but if it's not possible,it's not the end of the world.

Too simple, give them a later snack, about couple of hours before the dinner, then start your family dinner at later time when your hubby is about to finish he shower.

Well that might have been how you were raised but your kids are hungry earlier. Why not break up their meal? Give them a small serving of fruit or juice and cheese or toast early about 4:30/5, then they will be hungry again when your husband is ready to eat. And you not eating dinner is going to confuse them, so if you are doing that to diet, then save some of your calories for that time even if you simply have something very light, like salad or soup. Hungry children isn't going to make your husbands meal pleasant either. This way, everyone gets what they want and you get the family meal you want.

I was raised the way you were and I do the same with my family. I think eating together is very important. I think everyone will just have to vary their schedule so this is possible. Perhaps you could give the kids a little snack to tide them over. It does not sound like your husband gets home all that late--but if he could get there earlier that would be good. I would do whatever it takes to make this happen.

Let the kids have a little snack around 4:00 p.m..... Set the table and start serving the food the moment hubby enters the house. Tell him to change into a clean shirt before he leaves work. He can take a shower after dinner.

Having young kids that don't understand why they have to wait for dad before eating dinner is a problem. 2 solutions that I can think of off the top of my head. 1 is to give them a light snack at least an hour before the dinner time and secondly you can have the family eating dinner together when the kids are older 3. you can have them eat their dinner at the time they usually do but let them sit in when you and hubby have dinner. and I mean both of you! You have t set an example for the kids to follow. soon they will get the idea that the family has to eat together.

Possibly give them a light snack at 4:30 so they are not gnawing your ankles off, then at 6 begin dinner so that it is done by the time hubby is out of the shower and the kids will be hungry again.
This way you are all at the table together.

At around 3 or 4 o'clock, give the kids a piece of fruit, not cookies or junk food. This will stave off the hunger until Dad gets home and sits to eat. We have the same problem here, I sometimes don't get home until 6 or so.

If you want to eat truly healthy, lose body fat consistently, normalize your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, and even boost your brain health and energy levels, you may have heard all over the news that the Paleo Diet has been found to be one of the best methods of achieving all of these benefits compared to any other popular "fad" diets out there. Go here https://bitly.im/aMD2J
The truth is that the Paleo Diet will never be considered a fad because it's just simply the way that humans evolved to eat over approximately 2 million years. And eating in a similar fashion to our ancestors has been proven time and time again to offer amazing health benefits, including prevention of most diseases of civilization such as cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, and other chronic conditions that are mostly caused by poor diet and lifestyle. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Paleo Diet is that it's a meat-eating diet, or a super low-carb diet. This is not true

When I need to make my 7 year old and 9 year old wait an hour or two for dinner, I usually give them a little (just a little) snack to tide them over. So, if you give your boys something to nibble on at 5pm, they can probably last 1-1/2 hours until you can l sit down for dinner as a family.

We have two active preteens and are both working full time in demanding jobs - I know what you mean.
The hard rule, Sunday supper is fully-prepared and a long meal. Friday pizza's and a movie as a family and the rest is the best we can accomplish.
It's hard, but it is a modern family curse. We also dine-out for chicken wings once per week as a family.
