My partner has offered to take me away during February/March (aren't I lucky). I would really like to get some winter sun rather than go ski-ing. I would also rather not do a long haul flight as I will probably be only able to take a weeks holiday from work. I live in the UK so somewhere within a 5 hour flight of the UK would be ideal. As a chef it is also improtant to me to have good food on holiday. Any suggestions?

Thanks to everyone who has suggested the Canaries - actually spent Christmas in La Palma and been walking in La Gomera too. Should also say that I am a real holiday snob - I hate resorts, don't like to be with loads of other brits on holiday and like to be as eco as possible (will be off-setting my flight) even on holiday. But we do both enjoy scuba and walking.

Why not try northern Africa? Morroco is really interesting and a little bit different. And the food is fantastic!

While the Midde-East may not be everyone's cup of tea, Egypt is a great place to go for some sun, and some culture too. Plus, it's only about 5 hours from LHR. There are a ton of beach resorts on the Sinai (great diving)....you could combine a stint on the beach with a cruise down the Nile with a few days in Cairo to see the pyramids.

If 5hrs. is your limit from UK, then I can recommend Corsica or Sardinia but remember that most European countries are geared for our summer visitors so it may be hard to find a resort that has all facilities functioning. Further afield you could try the West African islands of the Canaries.

canaries is your best bet for some sun in Feb/March. Rest of Europe won't be too good so early in year.
Try Tenerife- about a 4 1/2 hr flight from UK- plenty of great restaurants too.

Sarah A has the right idea - if you want to limit to a 5 hour flight, try the North AFrica/Southern Med - a lot of people of have said good things about Morocco, Tunisa is supposed to be good.
