coming from a person that has spent time in jail, it is a difficult road to go down. The best thing you can do is write him often and see him every time that it is possible. Maybe he can purchase phone cards to call home? Its much cheepier than collect calls. Most of make sure you tell him howm much you support him and love him!

The first thing you've got to do is to have a good and peacful talk with him. [Make sure you bring someone who he trusts most!] Howver, it is not just another conversation when you two are arguing and accusaing one another about what had happened! At this time, at whatever, he is accusing you or your family of, don't deny it. Wait until he had finished talking then that's when you calmly and peacefully EXPLAIN to him why do you think he is wrong in some points. The point here is to make peace, and DO NOT start to argue!!! Just have a peaceful conversation with him.

Encourge him not to do that. That it will be selfish to attempt to kill himself because he has family like you. But I can tell you first hand, jail is hell on earth. You feel like a caged animal. Everything you do someone tells you what to do, when to eat, when to take a shower, etc. So stay in his ear about what he has to live for and that you are doing everything possible that you can do. ( and I hope you are) I really hope the both of you be ok.

Just try to make him understand that you have & will always love & support him. Convince him you are trying your hardest to do what you can. Tell him to be strong & not to cut his his wrists. Tell him how that would just destroy you if he did. Tell him exactly how you feel. Sorry I could not be of any more help.

Can't do his time offer all support possible...but if he insists on being a martyr then remind him to slice wrist to elbow on a vein preferably on both arms...doing it right creates least angst for survivors...

That is sad, you need to tell your parents and where he is locked up at, so they can watch him 24-7 for his sake..keep writing to him, it must be real sad, you on the outside looking in...good luck God Bless...

I first would let the jailers know so they can put him on suicide watch, plus let him know that he is still loved by you and your family no matter what and that you will stand by him after he gets out.
