he is under stress from the move and loosing the other cats, and the whining or crying is from him missing the other cats. My cat did the same thing when we had to move and get rid of the other. He was so sad for months.

The cat misses it's companions and is stressed from the move. Give kitty lots of attention right now-provide toys he can play with by himself while you are gone and maybe a perch to look out the window-if this doesn't help consider another cat about the same age or younger and opposite sex (they'll fight otherwise).

Either she had a previous owner who died that she grieves about and will get over it in time. Loss of a close companion can also be a cause...being away from the other two might be a cause but its cats generally donot grieve over being away from a fellow cat.

Your cat greives at night because the night is when she feels alone. Maybe she notices a bit of traffic around the house during the day. Generally it is also said that cats greive over a clamity they foresee in the very near future. Hope that is not the case and donot want to alarm you......it is believed to be a superstition by some as well.

He misses his friends. Cats experience stress too.

Sounds like your kitty misses his friends. If he's shedding it might be to warm for him. Usually this time of year their hair gets thicker and they shed in the spring.
