It can be stressful. What if your the only one on schedule and you get slammed? Or a co-worker calls in or leaves early? Do you like being on your feet all day? Do you like dealing with people all day? Tips will vary depending on where your located. I have a friend that does it and made $9 in tips for one days work. But she has made a lot more on other day. Just depends on the day and people coming in. Most people don't see a point in tipping when your a carhop. Most of them forget that these people are waitresses or waiters. From what she said most of the people are younger kids and they don't have a clue that a carhop gets a tip.

I've worked as a carhop for almost three years. I make an average of $45 in tips a night because I am a really good rollerskater and very sweet! I am also a crew leader and my pay started at 5.25 now it's 7.25. It is definitely a fast pace job that requires a lot of energy. You have to be able to multitask!

i couldn't honestly tell you, but when i was at a sonic in missouri and one in texas i went to, there were signs attached to the menu board that said "tips will not be accepted by servers" they just opened one here in south dakota where i live and it doesn't say that....so i don't know, maybe that varies from sonic to sonic?
