I think that it´s the best way you can do it. Have your own relationship with god above any religions! The cristians think that the only right way of being with god is being cristian, but for me thats only a way of dominating people. If you want to be with god, just talk to him, don´t need bible, jesus, preacher, etc! If there is a god he will be fine to you, whatever is your religion of even if you dont have one.

You can do whatever you want, but the whole reason that there is even a Christian god (God) is known because of the Bible. I am not stating that a Christian god exists, I am just stating that you must consider where this God that you want to believe in comes from. In other words, God wouldn't exist without the Bible. There is a passage in the Bible that states that one must heed the word of God (everything written in the Bible) or that person otherwise has sinned against him and will burn in hell forever. So you see, separating God from Bible without understanding it will lead to trouble if that is what you choose to believe. If you do choose to believe in the Christian god, you should really read the whole Bible before making your decision because there are a lot of rules that most people (including Christians) would not dream of following (did you know that there are more than 10 commandments). For instance, the Bible states that women should not be allowed to hold a position of authority over men.
If you look at the history of religions you will find it difficult to believe in them. Religions are a society's way of dealing with the world which is why there are so may different types. For example, in ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) the river, which was a crucial source of life for the people that lived around it, flooded unpredictably. The weather of that region was also susceptible to violent storms. That being said, the religion of ancient Mesopotamia was one that told stories of warring and vengeful gods that created these destructible storms and flooding of the river. It was through their religion that the ancient Mesopotamians created a sense of order in their chaotic world.
On the flip side, ancient Egypt which was centred on the Nile river had peaceful religion with nurturing gods and goddesses. A Greek philosopher once noted that "if horses had gods, they would have four legs." You see, many people believe in a god because they want to know that someone is looking out for them, taking care of them, and that it something goes wrong then it is all part of his plan. The fact that the Christian god is father-figure is not surprising considering that this religion has developed and flourished in patriarchal societies. It is also not surprising that many people tend to turn to religion as a last resort or when they are at their most needy. People in prisons for instance, or when a family member is very ill.
It should also be noted that there is no proof in a Christian god no matter how convincing a missionary-type person is. So how much faith can you put in something that is not real?

Believe in that something made everything, but that is as far as anyone can really go. Any group that tells you that they are the way is full of ****. No one was around when anything started and that is a fact. Bibles and religion were created by man, when man started freaking out about being alone in the universe. You are alone. Is that such a bad thing? Don't worry about religions that strip man of his Humanness. No one has a corner on the truth not the Christians, Jews or any other MAN made religion. Just think if man created God what else we are capable of doing?

You can believe anything you want. The kind of god you believe in will determine whether you should belong to a group. Jews, Christians and Muslims generally do some of their worship in a group and other parts alone or with family. If you follow a different path, you need to learn what is expected or create your own rules if none have gone before you.

Yes, grab a Holy Bible and read and learn about Him, if you believe in Him...maybe God will reveal Himself to you.
Addition: How can you people assume that the questioner is agnostic? Her question says otherwise. Maybe you have a different view on what agnosticism is. According to Webster's or any other dictionary I've looked at says the following:
Agnostic: The belief that a supreme God is unknowable; professing ignorance of God.
Maybe you know something I don't. The question is asking if there is someway to believe in God without being labeled into a certain group. They obviously believe that God is knowable. This question tells me that they are not agnostic in the least, so give it up.

Hi! I'm Catholic and love it but if I were you ,I'd feel proud and thankful that he even allowed you the gift of wanting to know him. It's an honor, cuz it's much easier to believe there is no God. All you have to do to start is tell him you want to be open to him if he wants to touch you. It's very wonderful! But, he is very smart and he knows when you really mean what you say and when you are just being coy. We Christians find out ways to be more in contact with him by doing certain things he likes. Those things can be found in the Bible. Get one and read it. When you feel ready to take the jump to really believe in him, Tell him that you want him as your personal savior and you trust him with your life. From there God will steer your life and tell you where to go and if he wants you to join a certain church. Don't be afraid---He will surprise you. All Christian religions focus on Jesus. Say his name and he will show you himself. He's lovely! We belong to churches because he said "where 2 or more are gathered in my name , there I will be." And it is easier to live the lifestye if you have others to help you on the way---that's called fellowship. You are already on your way, so start ---he's real--Just say Hi! Strike up a friendship. Don't worry about the rest. You will be fine.
God bless and keep you sweetie! I'll pray for you.

Absolutely, Brandy!
You do not need to belong to an organized religion to be a spiritual person or even to be a good person. You do not even need to be in a church to pray or for God to hear you. Religion is a personal relationship between an individual & God. It need not involve anybody else.
Of all the religions on Earth, no ONE religion can possibly meet the needs of all of the people at all times of their lives. Many people change to other religions as their spirituality evolves. Some people don't like the idea that in order to belong to X, Y, or Z religion, they must also subscribe to all those other given beliefs that go along with it.
Nobody in an organized religion can be sure that THEIR religion is the "right" one (if there even IS a "right" one) so Brandy, don't you worry about picking one if one does not ring true to YOU. It's perfectly okay to pick & choose the things that you know in your heart are things that bring you closer to God & bring meaning to your life in a positive way. For some people it's meditation or getting in touch with nature. For others, it's researching different religions to find one that "fits" best for them.
One more thing to remember: Just because somebody does go to church does not prove that they are any better of a person than you are.
Good luck in your spiritual growth :)

you sure can believe in the existence of a God (or gods) without joining any religious groups. It does make it hard to share your spiritual feelings with others. There are Interfaith churches in some cities which means that they are not dedicated to any one faith but for all faiths. You can go there and get spiritual counsel without the pressure to join anything.
Good luck

Yes, just believe! Having a relationship with GOD should be a personal one anyway. Groups are just religion.

There are two forms of religion today: 1. Religion attained in the depth of experience and 2. religion preached by the scriptures and the sects. Religion in true sense is open and limitless and sectarian religion is bounded by institutions such as Christian, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Islam etc. In fact institutionalization of religion has divided men and men. But the true religion is the truth and spirituality is its essence. Since spirituality can not be bounded by any sect or group, it is not necessary to belong to any group to go into the depth of spirituality.

Read "Rational Spirituality" on the Dhaxem website. It is the only knoweldge about God and the Universe that will not expect you to believe in fairy stories, and that will give you clear answers to any questions about God and the Universe you may have. It will give you clear guidelines on how to move forward in a way that will be fulfilling and rewarding, without threats of hell-fire and without the demand for a meaningless sacrifice.
And you need not join anyone.
