As perhaps the only jewish person to answer, I hope you consider my answer.
Unlike the simplisitic answer offered by some ("the pharisee" for example), the reasons are actually quite clear. In short, there is simply not a single reason to think he was the messiah! Now, I'm sure this is shocking for a christian, but if you look at the scriptures the way the jews have always looked at them, you'll see that there's really nothing in it that would make us believe in jesus (and actually quite a bit to cause us to think he is not the messiah).

I ONLY GOT THIS FROM A RESEARCH

In Stregheria, Jesus Christ is believed to have been a sort of "evil messiah" or false messiah, while Aradia de Toscano is seen as the true saviour who came to free the poor and the oppressed from the bondages of Christianity.

Adherents to the Unification Movement consider Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon to be the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

The Shakers believed that Jesus was the male Messiah and Mother Ann Lee, the female Messiah.

For the Rastafari movement, Haile Selassie of Ethiopia was the messiah.

The Ahmadi/Ahmadiyya religion, considered deviated by mainstream Islam, believes that the Messiah and Mahdi have come in the form of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, India (1835-1908).

Today, the various Jewish denominations have sharp disagreements about the nature of the Messiah and the Messianic Age, with some groups holding that the Messiah will be a person and other groups holding that the Messiah is a representation of the Messianic Age itself.

The prohecies that the Messiah was supposed to fulfill were not fulfilled by Jesus. (The rebuilding of the Temple, nations uniting, etc)
It also has to do with the bloodline. Supposedly, he was supposed to be a descendent of David. But since he was of a virgin birth, Joseph did not conceive him, so he was not born of David's bloodline.

this is actually a very simple answer.

because he wasn't.

look out the window, is this the messianic age?

sure don't look like it to me.

The Messiah that Judaism is awaiting, will only have to come once.
and is NOT god incarnate, or any more divine than you or I.
is NOT a sacrifice.

Jesus simply did not fulfill the prophecys.

>>" am not Jewish, but I have many Jewish friends who do believe in Jesus!"<<

no you do not. you have christian friends who are in denial about their conversion.

NO jewish people believe in Jesus as the messiah or anything more than a teacher or mystic.

"Messianic Jews" and "Jews for Jesus" are Christians, not jewish. and most of them know it.

http://www.jewsforjudaism.org/ explains why these people are obviously christian, and NOT jewish, and why jesus was not the messiah.

Because Jesus did not fulfill the prophecies or the personal qualities of the Messiah.

1)He died.
2) He didn't gather all the Jews still in Babylonia
3) There was no world peace, free Israel, or universal recognition of G-d.

Because Jesus didnot fulfill the prophecies. Morever the death of jesus was shameful. Their messiah is not a masochist who show the other face after being slap. HE would chop that hand who dare humiliate him or try. In no way, christian can prove that Jesus is the messiah Jews are awaiting. That messiah reflect more the prophet of Islam than christian.

Jesus is the messiah only in Christianity.

Judaism does not support Jesus, because Jesus did not do what he was "supossed" to do for the jewish people. The jews are still waiting for their messiah, as the godson has not arrived yet for those peoples.

I am not Jewish, but I have many Jewish friends who do believe in Jesus! And of course, Jesus Himself was a Jew as were many of the apostles. Furthermore, as the Bibles tells us, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

I imagine many Jews are led to not want to believe that Jesus was the Messiah because of the reality that it was a group of Jews who were largely responsible for crucifying Him...sadly, they do not know that we are all equally responsible for his death which paid for all of our sins! And thankfully He is not one to hold grudges....He just wants us to come home like the prodigal son!

Shalom and God Bless!
