My mother said her doctor told her she couldn't eat brown rice and some other whole grains since she has so many stomach problems (had complications during several surgeries). I thought whole grains helped make it easier for the system to push out waste. But why would her doctor tell her that? She also says her stomach hurts whenever she eats whole grains. Anyone know anything about this?

whole grains take longer to break down. If you are healthy they are better for you because your body is doing more work and burning calories. If she has enzye problems or stomach problems she needs something that does not require as much work.

Whole grain has more fiber. When the fiber is in the stomach, it can't be degisty by your body, but can be digested by bacterial, when bacterial digest the fiber, it produces gas, this may happen to your mom.
