I think that it is one of the thing that people do and don't always admit. You are having a hard time and think to yourself, "am I losing it?" I have read that if you are questioning whether or not you are sane, then you probably are sane. I am not sure that insane people are aware that they are insane.
If you are really concerned about your mental health, definitely follow up with your family doctor. Ask your friends if they have noticed any changes in your behavior. A warning sign that you may be disconnected from reality, is if you are hearing voices that other do not hear. Or if you feel compelled to do something or think that someone is following you or watching you.
Check out the link below for some mental health tests that you may find helpful. Of course, you will need to follow up with your doctor if you are worried about your mental health, but these tests may be helpul to you.

This sounds like anxiety. The unrealness of things sounds very much like depersonalization. This is something that happens when anxiety goes that bit too far. Type depersonalization into google to find out more.
It seems to be the body's way of taking us away slightly from reality to protect us when anxiety gets too high.
Don't worry, you're not going mad, you just need to chill and take time for yourself.
Best wishes!

This is not normal. See your doctor. There is a difference between day dreaming and having things pop into your head. Do you hear voices? Feel like a different person sometimes? Your doctor can help you. It may be nothing, or it may be the start of something.

It may seem normal to a vast majority, but it is not healthy. Most of the time trying to escape reality is just a way to hide from those things that cause you pain. I have dealt with depression for most of my life. The things that have helped me have been antidepressants (you can get them through your medical doctor), counseling to help me figure out why it is that I am so set on hating myself, more than that has been learning who I really am and accepting myself for who I am. I've done this by finding out who God really is and that He loves me and that He is not waiting with a big stick to beat me as soon as I mess up. Instead He is waiting for me to turn to Him so that He can tell Me it's o. k. and How much He loves me. He loves you too and He is waiting patiently for you to give Him a chance.

Every human being suffers some degree of imballance, chemicals in the brain or hormones whatever, only higher than average off ballance folks usually seek or get care, we are all "unhinged" at least a bit.
So I say no, it's normal to question your normal only because...your...normal...enjoy

A shrink once told me that if I have a fear of going insane that's the proof that it hasn't happened and won't happen. People who truly "snap" are obvlivious to what has occured.
